Beauty wonders and horrors. Place to share your experience.
Before the show I see my friend Kira walking in to the backstage, where we get our makeup and hair done. I look at her face and I can’t believe my eyes. Ok, now I can go back, and change the title to: “Kira’s skin disaster”. You see, normally, I am a very polite person, but I failed to stop myself the moment I saw her. It was “Oh my God” situation with that eyebrows-raised-face full of sympathy. Poor girl had red and uneven face with huge breakouts, some yellow spots, and eyes with tears ready to come out. Although tears were not primary caused by Clinique’s 3 steps skincare everything else was. And this is an hour before the show…
After some research I found that:
So the true steps here are steps to irritation, redness and breakouts.
The ad says:
“Can great skin be created? With Clinique’s 3-Step Skin Care System, the answer is yes. The simple process—only 3 products, for 3 minutes, twice a day—gets any skin clear, radiant, and glowing, in about two weeks.”
ATTETION CLASS! We have a guest speaker today:
I worked for Clinique for a few months. The 3 step is the worst skincare system on the market. Seriously, the soaps are literally soap, which is so inappropriate for the skin! The toner has so much alcohol in it that it reminds me of my early binge drinking years in college (ya know, when you drink McCormick’s vodka?) And on to the lotion…might as well let it dry out and stick a wick in it. At least it would be useful as a candle. In all seriousness, they taught me at Clinique school that the soap will not remove makeup, so a separate “makeup remover” with the soap was necessary to completely cleanse the skin. By the time I cleansed my skin twice, it was RAW. They also told us the Dramatically Different moisturizer was not enough. So we had to recommend using an anti-aging moisturizer on top of that! Well, ladies, that takes us to FIVE STEPS!
Kira-victim says:
Step 1: I found that the soap left my skin with a taut feeling and dry patches of skin. The dish goes all gooey after a while and I started to find hard lumps in the soap which I think were probably from the soap being exposed to water then left to dry out.
Step2: After two weeks of using it I had a red blotchy face where my skin had become sore and irritated from the soap and lotion combined, and I had broken out into spots all over my face, I’m not talking small pimples here, I’m talking boil like spots that hurt when I moved my face. I can honestly say that I’ve never had spots as bad as now.
Step3: It just seems to sit on my skin and not sink in, and doesn’t leave a great base for makeup, especially powder, as it just clung to the lotion that hadn’t been absorbed into my skin.
I heard, with most products, you have to give them a few days so that your skin can adjust, so I continued using it for 2 weeks, by that time it looked like I had a severe STD and my nose is just about to fall down.
“The first day or two things were ok, but now when I put Step 2 on, my skin BURNS and my face gets red. The moisturizer does make it feel better, but my skin’s texture is sort of bumpy. I don’t have sensitive skin and have never had an allergic reaction to a skincare product.”
“The first 2 days I thought it was lovely and I enjoyed the novelty of the 3 steps. On to day 3 and I realized I was starting to break out in spots. After 2 weeks I repeatedly had little yellow spots around chin/t-zone, which although not major were a pest. I stopped using it after I found the skincare that was more suitable.”
“The first few days were horrific, the liquid soap, the mild one, dried my skin out and the toner, clarifying lotion (the purple one) stung. I had no improvement after a week of using this, in fact I started to notice patches of dry, flaky, red skin where it was upsetting my eczema.”
“These products made dry flaky patches around my nose that would start to peel and become red and sore. It took 2 weeks after I stopped using the products for my skin to go back to normal.”
“The moisturizer broke me out, smells terrible, feels terrible, the toner stings, smells like Vodka, and did NOT remove residual traces of makeup, the soap, dried out my skin, making it flakey and tight.”

The Clinique 3 step system is specially formulated for the face. It is not just soap. It balances your natural water and oil. If you had the wrong outcome, it maybe because you didn’t get the right products for your personal skin type. The whole system is allergy tested to prevent anyone from having a reaction. Many people, including myself, find Clinique’s 3 step to be the very best thing for them.

Dear Consult, you just said something Clinique’s representative would say, but in reality Clinique so called “allergy tested” skincare proven to give some terrible allergic reactions. Hmm, go figure what it was tested on!

I have never, and I mean never, broke out with anything - I do not have sensitive skin. I have never used anything on my face before besides over the counter stuff. For Mother’s Day this year my husband takes me to the Clinique counter and gets me all the stuff that the lady said that I needed. I got the 3-step cleansers, the gel face wash, the repair wear eye cream, and another moisurizer that she said that I needed.
The first night, everything seemed fine. The second night the eye cream tingled when I put it on. I have never used this stuff before so I didn’t know if it was supoose to tingle or not. The third night the eye cream tingled and burned when I put it on. I desided that I was not going to use the eye cream anymore. THe next morning, I wake up and my eyes were red and were almost swollen shut. The redness and the pain went from right below my eyebrow to the bone right below my eyesocket. Exactly were I applied the eyecream. It is not like an allergic reaction - it is a burn. That eyecream burnt my skin and my eyes - my eyeballs were blood-shot red and were dry and itchy.
I thought this stuff was suppose to be good for your skin!!!!

Years ago I bought Clinique’s 3-Step Skin Care System and the next day my face was covered in red blotches and tiny red spots. I immediately spot using any of their products. I’ve always had a perfect skin that my friends and family envied. A couple of years later I became friends with a proffesional make up artist. She use to work for The Bold and the Beautiful. When I met her she was 39 and had the face of a 28 year old!!! Beautiful woman! I asked her about skin products and she absolutely recommended Bobbi Brown because compared to the $300 and up products Bobbi Brown’s had the same ingredients. I wasn’t no time in taking her recommendations. Now people ask me all time what type of skin care products I use. They love my skin and more important I LOVE IT TOO!!!

I do not have reactive skin. I have never had an allergic reaction to ANYTHIN until i used Clinique. i went out and bought their all about eyes cream and their anti redness cream. On the second day of use my skin over my nose, cheeks and around my eyes including my eyelids, felt buring hot. This continued to get worse and developed small red lumps across my skin which looked live hives or server heat rash. The following day the skin directly underneath my eye swole up like i had been crying (i hadnt). I went to the doctors who advised it was a contact dermatitas. I have been given 1% hydrocortisone cream and some very strong anti histames. I have been to Clinique to show them what their creams have done to my complexion. The person behind the counter continued to ensure me the cream was 100% allergy free and was tested on 600 women!! Clearly Clinique not only are misleading when selling their products they are incapable of taking ownershop of a problem which they caused! NEVR USE AGAIN!!!!

Hiya, Ive noticed myself that after using the 3 step cleaning system that my skin started to burn but put it back to that I just had a Baby…… I just went back to Germany to visit my Family and spoke to my Brothers Girlfriend who works as a beauitician in big Perfume store and she told me that they have more and more customers coming in complaining about Clinique (Why should she lie to me?) as I only mentioned that Ive got problems……. So I agree with Marcia that Clinique is missleading customers as I have got excma and my skin is very sensitive and it cant be allergy free if somany people are reporting problems!

Hey, guys! I feel relieved that it’s just not me who had an allergic reaction to Clinique’s products.
I have used the 3-step system for about 18 months now, and was quite pleased with the effects. (although I know what you mean about Step 2’s high alcohol content). I have never had any allergic reaction or sensitive skin.
2 months ago I purchased the Superdefense moisturizer, as well as a their night cream, using it in conjunction with the 3 Step system. Within 1,5 months I got a red, burning, itching rash in my neck and the skin on my face started becoming flaky. Thinking it’s just South Africa’s dry winter conditions, I put on even more superdefense, as it’s a moisturizer. Shortly thereafter I woke up with a red, blotchy, coarse, itching, burning neck and face, with the skin around my eyes turning reddish-purple and swollen!
I immediately went to the pharmacy, received a cortison-based anti-allergy cream and anti-allergy pills, and haven’t used any of their products since. Only Vitamine E cream for me, thanks!
Such a waste of money on these expensive products!

I never had any problem on my skin and its not sensitive skin type. I used clinique because i had dry skin on that time and the previous product i used was LOREAL mousse anti-aging which is the best product for me. I stop using Loreal because its seems so hard to find everywhere..then i make a conclusion maybe the product is dicontinued. After 3 times only i used 3 steps system, (Clinique products). all about eyes rich and their sunscreen cream which cost me $196, i got this problem. When i woke up the next day,the skin directly underneath my eye swole up like i had been crying all the day (like i’m crying a lot but i hadn’t) and i got ithcy and redness on my skin. This continued to get worse during the day and developed small red lumps across my skin which looked live hives or server heat rash..I stop using the product and the next day again my skin over my nose, cheeks and around my eyes including my eyelids, felt buring hot. and my whole face swollen as well. I feel TERRIBLE!!! does anyone knows when will i get my face back to normal? Please help me…

I got the 3 step system and the first day was fine, but the second day I two red and itchy spots near my eyes, i thought i had just fallen asleep on a wired stop. That was not the case the next day i had another spot and was VERY itchy and puffy and red. After reading the comments here i new that the 3 step system is not RIGHT for ANYONE to use. PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM CLINIQUE!

I bought Clinque’s supermoisture foundation and night cream about 3 months ago (after the birth of my son). Within 2 weeks I found my eyelids were swollen and the skin underneath my eyes became red, itchy and flaky. Every morning I would wake up to red puffy, irritated eyes. I thought perhaps it was my body reacting to the hormonal change after the pregnancy. It wasn’t. I have used Clinque years ago and never had this problem. The moment i put on the makeup my skin itches, within hours it’s starts to turn red around my eyes. I refused to use their mascara as who knows what would have happened. Doctor just prescribed a steriod ointment to clear it up. Never again will I buy this product. I will go back to using Lancome.

I wish I had read these posts before I purchased clinique just over three weeks ago. I’ve never had a problem with my skin, however at the moment, post use of clinique my skin has NEVER looked SOOOOOO bad.
I stupidly persisted using the 3-step skin regime for three weeks thinking that my skin would be perfect after using it, - I was certainly wrong. Once I started using clinique I noticed that my skin would look worse than what it did the day before, but persisted in the hope that my skin would clear up. After 3 weeks it never did, and now I look like I have an acne problem.
I have never felt so embarassed to go out in public, as my skin is a complete disaster. I have literally broken out in pimples all over my face and have horrible uneven skin tone.
The clinque sales representatives are useless and don’t have any clue regarding the products they sell you, as when I went back to obtain a refund I was informed that my breakouts were normal after using the product! What a joke, no woman’s skin should look anything like mine currently after using it for 3 weeks.
The worst part of the whole experience is that I had never had a problem with my skin in the first place and could have avoided all of this if I had really known how bad clinque is for your skin!
I would seriously advise against using this product under any circumstance.

Truthfully, I think it is incedibly unfair to judge just this brand. There are many brands out there that are much worse. I have been using Clinique for two years and I absolutely love it. The only thing I can think of is that you got the wrong products for your skin. Keep in mind that Clinique was developed by a dermatologist so it has to be good for skin….just not everyone’s skin obviously but NO brand is good for everyone. Different things work for different people.

i worked for clinique briefly in college. i quickly learned to abhor the 3-step program. when i attended the regional training i spoke to the instructor about my concerns. specifically my dry patches got so dry they turned into excema ( a condition i suffer from but was under control on my face til i started using 3-step) and my oily areas were covered in acne. i figured out a process that worked for me but wasn’t consistent with clinique’s system. i used the gentle soap, the clarifying lotion number 3 and any moisturizer but clinique. i was constantly reprimanded for suggesting my customers not use all three products they way clinique insists. i encouraged my clients to mix and match. my skin looked great and so did my clients but the higher-ups were not amused. eventually i was fired. i had been in a car accident and couldn’t make it to work. i think it was an excuse to get rid of me. also the men’s system is exactly the same as the women’s only cheaper.

I have acne, not bad but mild and i didn’t get this product but did get the Acne Solutions Cleansing Foam and i love it i really do i used it all the time and my skin looked better. The only thing it didn’t do was prevent breakouts around my period. Also my friend’s family they swear by clinique. They have so many products from there.

Personally, the Clinique 3 step system works great for me. Its too bad so many people have had such bad reactions to it. I was having a lot of problems with my skin while pregnant with my first child, so I decided to try it and within a few days all the problems I was having with break outs and blotches had completely cleared up. I agree though that its terrible so many people have such bad experiences with the products! Luckily there are many products for people to choose from so that they can find what works best for them!

Hi everyone, I also reacted to Clinique products (moisturiser, concealler or foundation) a few people having been saying that maybe the clinique products were used incorrectly and that this is what caused the allergic reaction. Which is simply not true- the products caused the reaction - not the user. Also beware of terms like “allergy tested”, “dematologist tested’, hypo allergenic” and “fragrance free”. If you do some research you will find that all products have to be allergy/dermatologist tested before they are released to the market. there is no international standard for a products sensitivity to skin - so hypoallergenic is not legally binding. Fragrance free, simply means that they used a fragrance that had another use in the product. Buyer Beware.

I started using Clinique 3 step at the same time with Estee Lauder Lauder Advanced Night Repair Protective Recovery Complex and now I have these annoying breakouts on my forehead, especially in the area between eyebrows. Don’t know which one is causing breakouts, but I threw Clinique in the trash, couldn’t do it with the other one, though…LOL!!!

i really thought this wass the best stuff to use because of all the good things said about it, i wish i had looked into it abit more before i spent a loot of money at xmas, i was told i had very mild rosaeca so i bought the redness range, well ive been using it for a month now and lets say my face looks like ive had a chemical peel! my face is ruined, and i can not be seen in public without makeup which is also clinique foundation. the more i used it the worse its got, i know i should of stopped, but i never thought in a million years it was the clinique stuff that was making it worse, it just never clicked, ive got advice tonight and im going to start using dermalogica, and guess whats going onto ebay tomorrow!!

I can’t believe how much people are slaggin off clinique products. I myself have been using the 3 step skin care for 2 years now and it works brilliantly for me. Before this my skin was really dry and now it’s better than i ever thought it would be! All i can say about those who have had problems with it is you probably used the wrong types for your skin. It is important you ask for advice before buying any of the 3 step skin care products.

I have been using the 3-step system for type two skin for over a year and I LOVE IT!! I have always had a breakout or two and my skin didn’t have a healthy glow and now I am breakout free and my skin looks AWESOME. I get complimented on my beautiful skin ALL THE TIME. I love ordering from their online site and combining codes to get cool freebies. I LOVE clinique! If it didn’t work for you, move on and get over it. But, why act like their products dont’ work just because YOUR skin reacted badly!
Have a great day!!

I had the same thing happen to me! I used it because my skin was very oily and I had the occassional breakout but I stuck with that stuff for two whole months and my skin was horrid. It became dry and itchy, and I had some cystic pimples and I was completely broken out all over my forhead. It was really bad. I had to stop and it wouldn’t go away so I started using Proactiv. That really helped me a lot. I will never use Clinique again. Everytime I pass by the Clinique counter and they ask me if I want to see their skin care line, I cringe. lol

Why can’t the Clinique fans just accept not everyone’s skin reacts the same way? Clinique products contain a lot of ingredients that cause allergic reactions in many people. If you’re not one of them, good for you! Don’t attack people for having allergies as “slagging off Clinique.” I had a full consultation with the Clinique lady which included a lot of questions about my skin, and got the products recommended for my skin type. The next day my normally fine skin was broken out in spots and my skin was flaking off so badly I looked like a leper. I persisted with it for a few days but physically couldn’t use it because it burned me so badly. It took a lot of time and effort to repair the damage Clinique caused.

I totally agree with all those horror stories. I was using Proactiv and decided to change over to Clinique as i wanted to try something different. Big Mistake! My clear skin broke out in the worst possible way. I had massive pimples that looked like they were so big you would’ve thought they have combined to make these mountains. Anyways after reading those posts, i’m heading back to Proactiv. Never Again Clinique..

I’ve been to a doctor about a rash type dryness each the side of my face, and was given antibiotic and hydrocortisone for 2 months. Not much improvement. It’s as if a whiter pigment has developed in my upper cheek bones. After reading all these messages, I wonder if it’s the CLINIQUE almost makeup teint naturel parfait that I’ve been using for the past year. That’s how long I’ve had the rash…. coincidence?!? Still no solution for my problem and am waiting to see a dermotologist next. Anybody else out there got these symptoms?

Hello to: Jane and everyone else whose face has been scared by CLINIQUE products! I too have fell victim to Cliniques subliminal marketing torch which has left my skin locked up in an insane asylum screaming “HELP”. My experience with Clinique products started 7 years ago. I washed with the soap, toned with the clarifying lotion and hydrated with Clinique’s infamous Dramatically Different Moisturizer. After using the products everday for a week…I developed my first contact dermatitis flare up…I was 23. I visited a dermatologist who followed the Dermatology school book…which EVERY DERM follows…and prescribed both a topical and oral steroid and suggested I avoid Clinique products…Dah!
After reading the possible side effects including: •Skin thinning (atrophy) and stretch marks (striae).
•Easy bruising and tearing of the skin.
•Perioral dermatitis (rash around the mouth).
•Enlarged blood vessels (telangiectasia).
•Susceptibility to skin infections.
•Disguising infection e.g. tinea incognito.
•Allergy to the steroid cream.
I decided not to take the steroids…I already was experiencing something frightening…I didn’t want to risk something worse.
A few days after I stopped using Clinique I developed a horrific facial BURN! OMG I have never in my LIFE experienced ANYTHING like it…and I have been FRIED many times by the sun. Nothing I put on my skin helped extinguish the angry flame. I wanted NOTHING more than to end my life. This facial burn lasted over a year. Every morning and every night I held my tears…for my tears felt like steam rolling down my face. I couldn’t put ANYTHING on it, which was challenging considering I was going to Broadcasting school in hopes to become an on air reporter, which requires you to wear a lot of makeup on camera. I also was working as the Director of Communications for a non-for-profit where I had to interact with politicians, corporate leaders and act as the foundation’s public spokesperson….and of course, I had to hide the pain. I never WORE makeup (powder, foundation, eye shadow) prior to this…I had to cover Clinque’s scars….it truly was torture.
I was experiencing complete misery and loss of hope for NO doctor, including derms, internists, allergists, neurologists, Chinese Medicine doctors, dentists or orthodontists had an answer or was willing to help…I took it upon myself to research, experiment and diagnose. I should mention I also started developing allergies to food, including peanuts and diary and MANY skin care ingredients, including fragrances, aloe, botanical oils, etc… I changed my diet, drank more water, green tea and chamomile tea. I started meditating and began praying EVERY DAY to Mary (did the Rosary, which I never did before) and to St. Jude, the patron saint of lost hope. I went to church after work just to sit in the pews and pray. I didn’t know what was happening to me or why it was happening. I also avoided being in the sun, which was tragic for I use to be a sun Goddess, I loved to tan, I loved the heat, I loved being in the pool, I loved summer…Sadly, I no longer do.
It took over a year for the facial burn to subside. Though the constant burn is not with me everyday…its aftermath is…I now have broken capillaries (which I never had), hypersensitive and dry skin along with rosaeca.
I now can at least smile and laugh without cracking my face…but when I look at my face w/out makeup there is nothing for me to smile about. I was able to find a product that worked for me five years ago…Olay 7 effects fragrance free…that is until Olay changed the formula last year. I now am on a mission to find something that won’t awake the beast. My life is consumed with researching every second of every day products that will soothe the dragon that sleeps inside and alleviate my fear. I know it’s still there I feel it breathing everytime I am forced to experiment with a new product that causes irritation. I moved to Los Angeles to pursue my dream of acting and writing…I now just focus on writing for all the make-up involved with being an actor does not work in harmony with my now fragile skin. I have a fiance who absolutely adores me and I him….I fear I will not find a solution by our wedding day, which is next year. Clinique products peeled off my skin and exposed it to a world full of allergens. I am assuming I had an extreme chemical burn which broke down my skin’s ability to stay strong, fight and protect me from harm…but then again maybe it helped me stay clear from developing other severe problems, like cancer, by staying away from products that are toxic (which most are) even if they are approved by the FDA.
From my research it seems that contact dermatitis and negative reactions to skin care products is becoming an epidemic….there are SO many people, especially girls/women who are applying chemicals to their faces in hopes for a miracle (that skin care company’s falsely guarantee through attractive and incisive marketing), to get rid of wrinkles, acne, redness, dryness, oiliness, etc but instead receive the opposite of a miracle….something way worse.
I would love to start a petition,

I would love to start a petition for anyone who has had a terrible reaction to a particular skincare product….starting with Clinique…and ADVOCATE that something be done about this. Not all products are approved by the FDA, and even products approved by the FDA they too can be extremely harmful and toxic. Research for instance, Kinerase, write down all the ingredients and then research each one thoroughly…you will find mostly every single ingredient if used over time or too much is applied will cause serious side effects, including blindness and even death. What most people don’t know is that our skin is our largest organ…it has pores and what ever is applied directly onto those pores seeps inside…into our body…that’s why many will say “If you can’t eat it don’t apply it”. Don’t be fooled by what you can not see….we have a heavy duty engine inside that our skin protects…if you apply toxins on your skin it will effect your engines ability to operate.
The FDA approves Botox in moderation…WHY? It’s toxic!!! It blows my mind that people are injecting this into there body to preserve their outside appearance…Well, guess what outside appearance does not matter when your 6 feet under ground! Botox blocks the body’s natural nerve impulses causing them to relax…”in rare cases the toxin can spread beyond the injection site to other parts of the body, paralyzing or weakening the muscles used for breathing and swallowing, a potentially fatal side effect”, the FDA said.
In rare cases, Clinique products can cause chemical burns leading to severe facial burning that lasts for over a year. It also causes hypersensitive skin over time and if undiagnosed and mis-treated will lead to broken capillaries and rosacea.
Wikipedia:
Botulism (Latin, botulus, “sausage”) also known as botulinus intoxication is a rare but serious paralytic illness caused by Botulinum toxin, which is produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. The toxin enters the body in one of four ways: by colonization of the digestive tract by the bacterium in children (infant botulism) or adults (adult intestinal toxemia), by ingestion of toxin from foodstuffs (foodborne botulism) or by contamination of a wound by the bacterium (wound botulism).[1] All forms lead to paralysis that typically starts with the muscles of the face and then spreads towards the limbs.[1] In severe forms, it leads to paralysis of the breathing muscles and causes respiratory failure. In view of this life-threatening complication, all suspected cases of botulism are treated as medical emergencies, and public health officials are usually involved to prevent further cases from the same source.[1]
This is just one ingredient I am posting that is found in mostly every skin and hair care product: (there ARE SO MANY others that are even more harmful…Please EVERYONE research for yourself…Try to avoid what could ruin your life…Be Smart.)
Alcohol is a petroleum based fat solvent, so ironically it can dry your skin and hair - the very thing we DON’T want it to do! Another irony - it’s a free radical, yet is often used in antioxidant preparations that ’supposedly’ combat free radicals.
It’s quite toxic to the human body and some of its side effects are: a higher risk of cancer, headache, dizziness, mental depression, nausea, vomiting, coughing, wheezing, abdominal pain, mental depression, hallucinations, narcosis and even coma. Penetrating your skin is easy for alcohol and in the body it destroys our beneficial intestinal flora, which makes it easier for parasites to take up residence in our body. Many people are highly allergic. It can pass through the brain barrier and cause symptoms of ADD and dyslexia.
Alcohol is widely used not only in cosmetics but also shampoos, shaving products, waterless hand cleaners, mouthwash (25-30%), and in the preparation of bottled water, white sugar, carbonated drinks, and decaf coffee. It’s also widely used in shellac, antifreeze and other such chemicals. It is an industrial “byproduct”, which is translated as “waste”. This is deadly stuff!
Alcohol has been used in the following product types: hair color and bleaching (1317); facial moisturizer/treatment (638); moisturizer (600); conditioner (586); anti-aging (366); sunscreen spf 15 and above (312); facial cleanser (174); hand cream (124); styling gel/lotion (103); exfoliant/scrub (98). A few products containing alochols are:
* The Body Shop Aloe Soothing Day Cream
* Curel Ultra Healing Moisturizing Lotion
* Clinique Repairwear Intensive Night Cream
* Aveeno Moisturizing Bar with Natural Colloidal Oatmeal
* Weleda Rosemary Conditioner
Lets help each other! There is hope for all skin care disorders….we just need to band together to find it!
Cheers,

Ciprina, I was amazed after reading your comment! I am very sorry you had to go through this! I couldn’t imaging the damage could be THAT serious! I really feel for you, but I am sure that the person as strong as you are, will be very successful in the career that you have chosen! I really honestly wish that you get well and get you beautiful skin back!
Girls, watch out! When I was writing my original post I didn’t think that Clinique ruined face of so many…

I have been using the Clinique Medical line, and now have had massive breakouts on my skin, where I’ve NEVER had an issue with break outs before.
I’ve stopped using the Probiotic Cleanser, and am waiting for my normal skin to return!
An Anesitician told me that it was the “impurities” coming out, and that it would all go back to normal once I got everything out.
But I don’t wear foundation, so just what is clogging my pores so badly that I’ve had my entire forehead break out like I was 16 again? Granted in my teenager years, I think I had a TOTAL of 7-10 zits. I have always had awesome skin.
This has made me want to stay in, and not show my face anywhere.
Has anyone else seen or heard of anyone having the same type of reaction from the Medical line?
Please help, I can’t find anything anywhere.

I have used Clinique for thirty years and never had any issues until recently. I am wondering if they have changed some of their formulas? I have been having a terrible problem with rashes under my eyes and incredible itching. I am only using the Stay True foundation at this point, but I start feeling the itch after I apply the foundation. I can no longer wear my contact lenses. I have always loved this foundation, and I can’t find any info on the ingredients anyplace. I can’t understand why this has only become a problem in recent years. Perhaps they manufacture their products somewhere other than the US, but they seem to indicate the US. Does anyone know of a foundation that doesn’t cause reactions. I am getting tired of the itchy eyes and I have tried just about everything to get rid of them. I have been to the eye doctor and dermatologist. I don’t want to continue to use antibiotics and steroids on my eyes inderfinitely. Any suggestions?

I really really wish I had googled “Clinique burned face” before I used their 3-Step system Friday night. My face has what is compared to a terrible burn. I’ve been using the Clinique makeup for about a month now and was/am very happy with it. I just kept forgetting the little sample of the 3-Step skin care the clerk gave me. Well Friday night I finally remembered it and used it after removing my make up.
OMG I wish I could go back and forget again. The first step of the soap went ok but the step 2 was like torture just a few minutes after applying it. My face started burning and turned a bright red. It was at bedtime so the next morning I realized just how terrible it really was.
My face was still a very bright red and was burning and swollen. It felt so dry to the touch and also had a very tight feeling to it. I’ve tried everything I can think of on it so far. It’s not quite as swollen now after a couple of days but it’s still very red and just feels like a terrible burn. My husband felt of it as well and said it felt so dry it was like feeling of leather.
After reading the other posts here I’m thinking maybe a doctors visit would be a good idea.

Connie, did the redness and burning go away by now? If not, I recommend a visit to a doctor=(

No it’s still here. I keep slathering it with Eucerin Redness Relief, which is making it feel a bit better but it’s still here. I can’t even think about putting makeup on over this, so I’ll just go to work today without and let my coworkers think I had a great outdoor weekend! :o)
It just feels awful, like leather and is so tight. I’m staying positive though because I know it could be so much worse.

ladies!
the other night i stayed at a friends house after a party and forgot to bring anything to remove my makeup! her mum had some clinique toner so i used it…
i immediately felt it burning and tried to wash it off with water and i thought nothing more of it.
low and behold the next day my face started to get a bit itchy but i ignored it. the next day i woke up with red, swollen, itchy, flaky, dry and ultimately burnt skin under my eyes.
it progressivly spread all accross my face and now my skin has gone from being the one aspect that i get complimented daily on to being disgusting. its still itchy, its got millions of little bumps and its just horrible.
dont know what to do? any suggestions would be appreciated!!
(havent been to the doctor yet..)
am glad i am not the only one who has experienced this!
i live in australia so some of our other products are a little different- i am using cetaphil and also this natural cream called “medi-honey” which is for like dry, ezcema skin, rashes etc. also used aloe-vera under my eyes when they were burnt and that helped!

I have used Clinque eyeshadow for a couple of years and all of the sudden I developed a severe allergy to it. I woke up one morning and couldn’t hardly open my eyes. They were so swollen. I am not sure what kind of products are in the eyeshadows. It has been 7 days and I am still trying to recover from the allergic reaction. My eyelids are raw and flaky, also swollen in the morning. It is almost like several layers of skin were burned off. I would be very cautious with their products. I am a fair hair and skin person, so my skin is sensitive.

Hi I purchased Clinquie 3 step cleanse programme along with there superdefencse moisturiser 9th July and started to us it right away. Just after this I started to have problems with my neck becoiming red and itchy, but as Clinique advertie allergy tested I thought it cant be that so looked at other things such as perfume, swimming (?allergy to chlorine) the flithy condition of a house I visit to bath an elderly person and finally wen to the doctor who gave me stong antihistamines, On 5th September I bought some clinqiue eyeshadow, more wash, lipstick and wore the eyeshadow on Sunday ~ Got home and wahed ot off and since then my eye lids have been burning and feel swollen, infact you can see the inflamation where the eye shadow was ~ I have now stopped using all products and my neck, face feel better but I am still worried about my eyes. I have also emailed clinquie and am currently awaiting a response which I have been advised will be today. I also go to egypt in 3 weks time and hope my eyes are better then as when the sun shone on my neck area and into my eyes yesterday it was very sore.

Val, could you please let us all know what Clinique support responds.
Maui, I don’t think I have an authority to suggest anything here. I guess seeing a doctor will not harm at all though!

I was excited to get a free sample of the acne line from clinique to try it out last week with some products I got from sephora. I tried out the 3 step program a couple days ago. The first morning I didn’t notice anything wrong with my skin. The second morning I woke up and right away felt my skin all itchy and bumpy. I go to look in the mirror and was horrified by what my skin looked like. Millions of tiny raised bumps… red, and itchy. I’m no stranger to hives and througly believe this is what I have on my face. I’ve gotten many reactions to detergentents like Tide on my chest and back. So I have learned to stay away… looks like I’ll be staying clear of clinique products! I think with all the responses this has generated… we should try to get a class action lawsuit going against clinique for damaging our skin! Today is day two, I hope this ends soon. I have played around with a few things… cold water and oatmeal seem to help. If you make a paste of some plain oatmeal with a little cold water and apply it to the effected area it releaves the itching and burning somewhat…

I contacted Clinique and told them about my experience as I submitted above. A few weeks later I did receive in my snail mail quite a bit of paper work asking about my face and for a copy of my doctor bill so I could receive a payment for this. I was very surprised with Clinique doing this. They really gave me good customer support after this ordeal.

I wish I had read this before parting with my hard-earned cash!I hank you for all your messages. I am experiencing exactly the same reactions as everyone above after using the toner number 2 + super defence moisturiser - my face feels like it has been burned and is itching like mad.
I feel cheated and I can’t believe they are marketing their product as 100% allergy tested.

I worked at clinique for two years until i was done school, about a year ago. I have never had any issues with clients who have seen bad results. Allergy tested means it goes through thorough skin applications, about 1200 altogether and of anyone has a reaction it must be reformulated. Most other brands are just hypoalergenic which means if it leaves one common ingredient that people are allergic to out of the product it can be called so. The clarifying lotion contains cosmetics grade alcohol, SD 40 which is the same as all other brands unless it is specifically alcohol free. My conclusion to those who have used the clarifying lotion is tht you recorved the wrong one. The woman who used her friends mom should not have done that. You wouldn’t use her mascara or liptick right? So don’t use skincare recommended to someone else as evernyone’s skin is different. The reason why clinique was so willing to refund and help the woman out who wrote to them is becuase like MILLIONS of women, they believe in clinique. Although it may not have been right for the few women here, there is a reason why the brand does so well an has so much success and it is becuase for 99% it works. I had a women come to me one day who I would have thought was 40 maybe 50 but only becuase of her grey hair and she was 78. Her secret was 3 step by clinique. So if by taking care of my skin with a product trusted by so many and disliked by only few, I manage to look like this woman did. Then I am happy. I feel bad for those who reacted to clinique. But the succeeds behind clinique leads me to believe it was either the wrong piece of the line for you or that your skin was adjusting to a new regime negatively

I’ve just experienced a similar situation this weekend, having tried the sample of Clarifying Lotion I got from Clinique. Saturday morning I woke and could barely open my eyes, they were dangerously swollen and my face completely distorted. I was unable to put anything on it and despite taking some strong antihistamines I was worse on Sunday. After an emergency trip to the doctor I got steroids which helped the swelling, antihistamines and hydrocortisone cream. My skin still hurts so badly that putting even the slightest bit of hydrocortisone cream on it is like setting fire to my face.
I don’t have sensitive skin and have used Clinique products in the past but never again. 4 days on my skin is still tight red and painful; it is also starting to flake so I look like a leper. I’ve used many differerent cosmetic makes over the years from bargain basement to top of the range, I could never have imagined something could have such an effect so quickly. It will take weeks if not months for my skin to return to normal.

I purchased the cream shadow in cocoa shimmer and supermoisture foundation. I’m not sure if it’s one or the other, or both of them causing my allergic reaction. My eyes are CONSTANTLY red, itchy and swollen. My eyeballs are so bloodshot and sore I can’t even read for longer than 2 mins without hurting so bad! It’s been a week since I’ve worn either, and I’m still suffering! Has anyone else had a problem with cream shadow or supermoisture foundation? I don’t know how to make the redness go away!

for the past 6 weeks I have been suffering with a very strange eye problem which would go away and then return. Under my right eye would be very red, sore, swollen and each time it returned it would go further down my face. This past weekend has been my last breakout and I have now, using a process of elimination put it down to the Clinique Colour Surge eyeshadow duo I bought 6 weeks ago!
I have never used Clinique before having always used Estee Lauder, Clarins, Lancome etc and I am absolutely astounded that a company that has built its reputation on Allergy Free has given me this problem. Working in PR it is important me to look good when with clients, imagine my horror on teh days it flared up and I look like I have been in a boxing ring!
Anyway once this latest outbreakd red, dry sore skin clears up I will go back to my old brands and just through £15 in the bin and hope that it hasn;t caused more long term problems when using other eyeshadows.

hey everyone, ok just a month back i started to use the clinque three step formula and for 2 weeks my skin was picture perfect but later i started to develop these red rashes under my eyes and they started to develop. I woke up one morning with rashes all over my eyes and my eye swollen. After that i went straight to the doctor and she told me that i have an allergic reaction and i need hydrocortisone cream 0.5% and some cold compression after 4 days it started to get better. I went for a follow up for my rashes , they were mostly gone by i had very very dry skin the doctor recommended this cream which caused my skin to flare up again. I stopped but just yesterday i found out that after i used baby oil my dry skin reduced and so did my rashes.. this might help you ladies.. but the bottom line is please do not use clinque products..if you do make sure you test them on your arm for 2 weeks before hand and see if it work..i hope i get my skin back..

Mandy,
“I am absolutely astounded that a company that has built its reputation on Allergy Free has given me this problem.” SO TRUE! How possibly can they advertise allergy-free when there are so many girls suffering!!!! From what I see there is no medicine that can just make the problem disappear. Clinique should be doing something about it!

I have used a light Clinique moisturiser on and off for a number of years. I usually get it at the airport. 4 days ago I went into a chemist and was sold the 3 step system plus an extra anti ageing mosituriser. Twice a day for 2 days I enthusiastically followed the system but third day my skin started to feel itchy and by the evening it had swollen and redenned! Puffed up eyes, the works! I know I wanted a nice glow but this is ridiculous. Right now My skin is sore, red and itching. I have never had problems like this before. I am going to try baby oil to see if that helps. If not I might have to visit the doctor. I spent over £100 on all this and will never use Clinique again!

Clinique is the WORST, and i literally mean the WORST product on sale!!! DO NOT spend money on CLinique. I cannot believe the lying products they’re selling. Fast, run back and return the worthless piece of crap you’ve ever purchased. The company should be closed in a few years. There is absolutely no reason why anyone would purchase a $40+ skin care that leaves your skin dull, rashy, itchy, with pimples, and overall unhappy!!!!

I also used to work for Clinique in my college days. In fact, the first products I was started on as a teen was Clinique. I was an avid 3-Step System user, makeup user and loved it so much that I sold it in college at a nearby mall. Having said that, I am now 30 and after 10 years of not using Clinique (other than the eyebrow pencil and eyeshadows) I decided to use the bar soap from the 3-step system while in New Orleans for Halloween. This is the ONLY item that was used from that line and the ONLY product that was used outside of my normal routine. I washed my face with the soap on Friday night and then again on Saturday night. On Sunday, I woke up to a cluster of pimple-like bumps between my eyebrows. I also had some pain on the left side of my forehead. It was similar to the pain you have with a really deep pimple. The ones that hurt before they pop up. By Monday, I developed four more bumps that were similar to pimples on the left side of my forehead. That part of my forehead also began to burn on this day and itch terribly. By Tuesday my forehead continue to burn, itch and I had red blotches on this same area…which could have been from the itching. The pimple-like bumps looked almost like smaller boils…similar to maybe shingles or hives. To treat these bumps, I put an antibiotic and an anti-itch cream for the itchiness. Now, a month and a half later, I have scars and I blame Clinique for it.
I have always been blessed with GREAT skin. I have NEVER had skin sensitivity issues, and the only thing I can think of is something has changed in the Clinique formula. As I mentioned before I was a longtime user of the 3-Step System less than 10 years ago, so something is going on. I thought it might be that my skin is becoming more sensitive as I get older, but no other products have had this effect on me to this date, so something is going on at Clinique.
I just wanted to share my story. I DO NOT want someone to blast me by saying I didn’t use all the products as they are supposed to, etc. As I mentioned I sold this line myself and even if you didn’t use the toner and moisturizer, you should NOT get this kind of reaction. Obviously, everyone is different and some products one person can use, someone else may not be able to. I do however have a BIG problem with what I was taught as a Clinique Rep and that was to tell my customers that your skin will get worse before it gets better, which is what I told my customers when they came to me with breakouts. I have thrown out all of my eyeshadows since I am now terrified of having further problems.
I am not a person who is overly concerned with my looks, but to go from having perfect skin to having strangers ask me what is wrong with my face is highly upsetting and humiliating and I would not want anyone else to go through this.
On a side note, does anyone have any scar treatment tips? The 6 scars I have from this ordeal are mostly small, but still noticeable since they are new. I do have one large one in between my forehead. It is not a raised scar, but it is almost as if I have dent in my forehead. Skin is not filled in evenly. Thanks!

Thank you for sharing your story! I always say that “this is not a product for me” when after a try I find my skin dry or overly moisturized with greasy feeling, this is the worst that happened if I chose the wrong product, of course I was lucky enough not to try Clinique… It is unbelievable that the product that still sells in the store can ruin your skin leaving you with such serious problems! I wonder if anybody sued them.
As for the scars, I am not an expert, but I think visiting a beauty center and asking them about laser resurfacing and fractional laser therapy would be a good idea.

I bought the 3 step program just yesterday and it is already bothering me. I have been using a sample of the liquid facial soap for a few months, and because it was one of the only things that didn’t upset my sensitive skin, I had to get more when I ran out. Although it had been working for me, it did leave my skin feeling a bit dry, so my mom asked the woman at the Clinique counter if there was any moisturizer that would work for me. She suggested the 3 steps so we paid $60 for it and went home to try it out. Everything seemed fine the first night but when I woke up, I noticed my face had a few faint, red spots around where it had previously been dry (by my nostrils and on my chin), but it was barely noticeable. I used the 3 steps again in the morning and the rash turned to a bright red and spread to my nose and cheeks. I think it was the clarifying lotion that did this, because the soap never bothered me, but I’m not sure if I should keep using the moisturizer too. Clinique offered a full refund if the products don’t work, however, so I can at least get my money back if it continues to bother me. Maybe it’s just my sensitive skin, but I would not recommend this program.

I bought the 3 step acne treatment 2 days ago and started on yesterday morning, I went to church came home and slept for about 4 hours woke up with a itchy, red, swollen face and my eyelids was almost completely shut….my boyfriend really thought I need to see a doctor…so I got up washed my face with just some regular over the counter face soap and put an ice pack on my face, it eventually went down (in about a day)I refuse to leave the house! My eyelids are still swollen…I am about to go back and see if I can get a refund…I would not recommend this product to anyone!

Hey all. Just thought I’de share my story as well. I have great skin, I’m 31 look much younger no wrinkled or anything. I have been using either Mary Kay Tiimewise or Aveeno (when i run out). But I have moved to N. Chicago and the winter was doing a serious dry number on my skin, but its ok becuase I had my Mary Kay Intensive moisturizer which is really thick and kinda of shiny, but I used it at night so it was ok. No sensative skin problems here either, never have broken out from even the cheapest make-up.
One day I was bored and went past the Clinique/Estee Lauder counters and thought I’de try something new that was a little less greasy looking that would help with my dry skin so the lady suggested I use the trail kit 3 step 1 of course, which can with a big 4.2oz mousturizer i thought it was a great deal for $20. First day cool, i read the directions used my aveeno foaming make-up remover and and then the step 1 soap. When i was done in the shower but on the clarifying stuff ( never used toner in my life btw) then the moisturizure, it felt nice and non-sticky or greasy, ok, go to bed. wake-up face is dry, well maybe i didnt use enough. 2nd day some thing, nothing wrong..third day little bumps around my eyes, hmmm, maybe because I was using a new concealer (though I have used it before in the past) 3rd day, bumps are still on the eyes.So I cleaned out all my brushes and even my make-up bag just in case it was some pesky bacteria. Day 4 bumps everywhere even on my eyelids (they look like chicken skin skin, and needless to say, I took all that crap out of my shower and medicine cabinet, returning the kit I got my my neice before she can even use it and it happens to her and using the stuff I know works for me. I bought some avocadoes, honey and olive oil to make my moisturizer and kicking clinique to the curb, these bumps should dissapear soon, I just need to wash my brushed again to make sure that moisturizure is out of them.

I’m 16 years of age and about a week ago I too purchased the infamous 3-step skin care system when I’d heard about an offer, buy the £13 soap, and get samples of the toner and moisturizer free. Good right?
I must say I’m very happy I didn’t buy the products in full sizes. I’ve never had perfect skin, I’m extremely oily and have a few spots now and then, but nothing too worrying and my main area of concern was scars from spots where I used to pick them. I decided to try the 3-step because of the offer but otherwise was pretty happy with my mish-mash of skin care.
I am now extremely worried as I’ve developed spots all around my mouth and my temples. I’m normally extremely oily but I now have trouble opening my mouth without feeling tight and sore. All I want to do is scratch my face continuously. I recently had to go to a party, and burst to tears at the sight of my face with foundation on. It looked blotchy, dry and cake-y. Even my friends looked at me in disbelief. All night long I felt selfconscious and kept my head down.
I’m therefore glad I’m not the only one going through this. My mum has used Clinique all her life, and she has never had any problems so she too is very shocked as to what has happened.
I am now though left with a problem as to what to do to help this. Does anyone have any recommendations of any NATURAL solutions. Home made concotions or masks that I can help relieve the dryness but combat the sore itchy spots.
I have been told to eat a lot of foods rich in iron like spinach, and drink lots of water but still feel tight. I don’t know how I can put foundation on, as I will NOT go into college without it. Please someone help!

hey ladies,
ok so i did use the clinque 3 step system around 4 months back cause i heard it did wonders for peoples skin. after 2 weeks it was alright but then i suddenly felt a burning sensation on my face i just thought it will go away if i slept it off.BIG mistake the next day i wake up my eyes were swollen my rashes were all over my face. I went to the doctor and she told me to use hydrocortisone 0.5% on my face with cold compression on my eyes to get rid of the swelling. I noticed in a week it all went away but it kept coming back over the winter break mostly cause of the dust. My face is thankfully back to normal now and better than before i just want everyone to take caution when buying the Clinque three product system especially when using the step two toner.
If you skin is dry use aveeno dry skin baby lotion it worked wonders on me!
i hope this helps

hey just want to say omg!!!…I purchased the 3 step range (starter pack for £46) on 26th January 2010. Thought it was a bit expensive but went ahead with it…first day I was fine but but 3 days later my skin has gone BAD.
I followed the instructions, once in the morning and at night and used nothing else. By day 3 my skin was so icthy, I had red blotches on my face…..I looked as if my skin had been burnt. It was really BAD!!!…I have never had any reaction on my face before.
I still had my receipt and took the products back to the store that I had got them from and got a full refund back!, even the lady who was working there could see that I had a bad reaction to it!!!!
I DEFINATLEY DO NOT RECOMMEND IT TO ANY ONE….
The toner no.2 was so harsh on my skin, it was like a burning sensation on my face.

I suffer from oily skin and had wanted to try Clinique for quite a while so I decided to splash out over £100 on the 3 Step and some Clinique make-up (I wish I could go back in time and save my money!!)
I too after a few days started getting dry sore patches of skin and spots. I continued to use the 3 step coz i thought it was just my skin getting used to it - how wrong i was!!
It got worse and worse and i had really sore patches around my nose and chin and just below my cheeks. it was awful! i found it so embarassing and it really knocked my confidence, especially coz my makeup didnt cover it! I stopped using 3 step.
Id sit staring in the mirror just crying my eyes out!! It was awful.
Even a month after stopping using 3 step my skin was still sore. I stopped using any skin care routine and just stuck to washing my face twice a day with Nivea calming milk and water.
I went to Australia over xmas hoping that while i was there the sun would maybe help, it did slightly but i ended up using Cortic-DS on the sore patches and wow! It really worked, my skin is now back to normal and I’m finally confident again!
Now i just carry on using the Nivea calming milk twice a day, no other skin care routine and my skin is happy!! I still suffer from oily skin but to be honest after the disaster with Clinique it doesn’t bother me as much!
Stay clear of Clinique!! What an awful product! I can’t believe so many other people had the same experience! I wish i’d googled it before i wasted my money!!

hey guys,
im 14 and i have pretty bad acne and i got this for valentines day. im level 2 and i was soooo excited to use it. because of all the great reviews on the website and youtube. and i like the soap ok and i got the gel because i have acne and the lotiions not oil free and i like the gel it makes my skin super smooth. but every time i use the toner i cry because i feel like my face is burning off. i went to clinique and told them this and they said “its fine wait a while” is this normal? why is it burning me? and will them give me all my money back?!

Ok, my problem is the exact same as smiles14’s. I am 14 with mild acne and i have some ecxema. We went into the Clinique store and we bought what the lady at the desk reccommended. The first day was perfectly fine. I didn’t have any problems. By the second day I had a small red spot on my cheek and my face burned everytime i touched it. I went to my moms work (she is a nurse) and she had told me to throw away ALL of the make-up we had purchased. She also had told me I had an allergic reaction to the product. Thats night she gave me some benedril. The next morning I woke up and my WHOLE face was red and swolen. We went to the doctor immedeitely and they had to give me a steroid shot in my butt. Now while all of this is happening I am thinking ” What the heck did that lady give me? I thought it was suppose to help me?” So my lesson is learned. Don’t buy expensive products because they are made cheaply and are only expensive because of the fancy names they have.

I bought clinique 3 step, programme and within a week of using, my skin became very dry and is covered in a terrible rash which is so itchy its almost unbearable. To add insult to injury they sold me a clarifying lotion which was a demo bottle, which i only noticed when i bought the products back for a refund. Ive always had a lovely complexion, i used 3 step prior and no bad result but using it again this time has left my face hideous, ive had two visits to the doctors, on the second, after my face has become worse, hes given me eumovate, antibiotics and antihistamines, its sad that so many people are suffering after using clinique products. I just hope that one day my skin will get back to normal. Ive been diagnosed with contact dermatities.

My skin has FINALLY went back to normal after an awful week at school. The second doctor visit I had the Dr told me to use only Neutrogena and Almay because they are hypoallergenic. My skin is still flakey but I am now allowed to use make-up and I had just found out i chemically burned my skin. I used Ponds lotion to get my skin back to normal and my acne is now gone!

Hi - I have been using the Clinique 3 step (No 2) for the last six months - no problem. Recently however, my eyes have been swollen and the skin on my eyelids flaky and red. Contact dermatitis. I have TOTALLY stopped using the product - shame because it has cost me alot of money as I have “stocked up”. I will start using Cetaphil or similar. What a con job and an absolute waste of money !

Hello ladies
Up until a month ago I had only ever used baby soap or wipes on my skin to clean it and Nivea classic thick cream to moisturise. I’d never had problem breakouts and had often been complimented on my skin.
That was until I decided to speak to a Clinique rep in my local Boots.
Before Christmas I had a fire in my house and a combination of soot irritating my face, stress and not looking after my skin properly took it’s toll and my skin looked dull and I was suffering from a slight redness on my cheeks.
I spoke to the Clinique rep who suggested the anti redness soothing cleanser, the mild clarifying lotion and the anti redness mineral powder.
I didn’t get on with the minderal power from day one. It ended up all over my clothes and floor and didn’t really cover any redness too well. I took it back after a week and got a refund.
I seemed to be getting on okay with the other products. Until two weeks ago. All of a sudden on waking it felt and looked like my skin was made of old paper.
It was worse than before and any lines were really pronounced. As the week went on my face got more and more painfull and I developed breakouts all over my face. I have never suffered with breakouts before. The worst I had even as a teenager was one spot every 2 months. As I said before I’d even been complimented on my skin and the fact I looked younger than my years.
Now at 34, I was suffering from horrible spots, dry dull lifeless skin that had lost it’s tone.
And in the space of a few weeks - pronounced wrinkles.
My hands also started to get sore and red (i am assuming this was from applying the cleanser). I have also noticed that my eyes have been looking bloodshot.
The last few days I have been using a mild Clarins cleansing wash on my face (a sample I had been given and never used) followed by some blue orchid oil for dehydrated skin (again - a sample) and covering that with tonnes of Boots skin therapy cream.
It has to be re applied after 3 hours or so but it seems to be the only combo that keeps my face from looking grey and flakey. Nothing is stopping the constant pain however. It feels like I have had a skin peel that has gone wrong.
I am taking the other two porducts back tomorrow and hopefully get a refund. If I don’t get a refund, I will kick up an almighty fuss and make sure other people know why I am there.
I will never, ever use Clinique products again.

Hi Ladies,
I’m a guy, 23 years old and I just googled for Clinique 3 step skin worse and came across this site.
Few months ago I had to use some medicine, which resulted in uneven skin in my face. My mom works at a shop at suggested me to use the Clinque 3 step line. So I’m using the skin type 1 line, cause I have a sensitive skin, so I can’t handle any alcohol, for like 3 weeks now.
I’ve always had a few piples from time to time, especially after shaving (have a Clinque shave gel btw) but then it was always one or two nothing more. Well when I look in the mirror at the moment there are “never seen anything like this before” red bubbles on my cheeks. Have them for like a week now.
I don’t know what to do now, cause my mother also said it could become worse first but it will get better eventually. But after reading the above comments Im getting very unsure what to do! I read here that most of the people stopped when it was getting bad, did anyone pushed through with it and experienced it getting worse after a long long time?
I see this is a female site, but does any of you know good a Men product line? I just want to get my old skin back
Thanks in advance

Hey Mike! I’m sorry you got these problems also. I am not a doctor, so I wouldn’t recommend any medicines, but I’m pretty sure you should stop the product that gives you an allergy. To be sure what to do about this you might want to see the doctor, the dermatologist for example. You need something that helps to get your skin back to normal.
After the problem is solved you could try MATIS men line for skin. Check if they have products for sensitive skin.
good luck, and get better soon=)

Hi,
I bought Clinique’s 3 step system back in Jan 2008 thinking I was buying some great products but had a bad reaction to it. The sides of my face were hot and red and came out in little pimples, they were also itchy too . 2yrs on my face has never got over it, still have little red patches that can be itchy and hot at times, my skin was great before I used their products but unfortunately it hasn’t gone back to the way it was before. My advice dont try it!

I found this page after I searched the web with keywords “Clinique rash on cheek”– because that’s exactly what is going on after using the brand for a month.
After the first week, the pores on my face did appear smaller and my face looked favorable although I had a rash on my left cheek. I immediately returned my #2 Cleansing Toner to the store and exchanged it for a (thought to be) gentler #1; because I have oddly-behaved combination skin, the consultant initially thought I could go 1 or 2 and said “Well I guess this confirms you’re a 1.” So a little hydrocortizone cream and a quick switch to the #1 seemed to be working and I was happy again with Clinique…
..until you fast-forward to this week; the rash is beginning to appear again in the identical form and area to the first one. I am beginning to get break-outs on my chin (a very, very oily area in comparison to the rest of my Sahara skin) and am itchy.
If the consultation Clinique has set-up to ID a person’s skin type genuinely matched me, I would be a #2 to control problem areas, but cant be because the #2 toner is acid. Glad I read these reviews because now I know it’s counterpart in disguise– the #1– is just as bad!
I will be switching immediately, for the sake of good skin!

I have naturally dry, flaky skin, but I also have an oily T-zone and a minor amount of acne over my face. I do, however, have redness and acne scarring.
My father bought me Clinique’s 3-step Acne Solutions system for my birthday. I used the system once (instead of twice, thinking that that would dry out my face even more) the first day I got it in addition to one of their moisture-surge lotions. It was fine. But then, the second day I used it, I started noticing itchiness on my cheek. This spread quickly and became hive-like itchy bumps all over my face and neck. I went to the doctor and she prescribed a corticosteroid and told me to get some hydrocortizone cream. I hope that the women at the macy’s clinique counter will let me have a full refund. That was too painful. I thought this stuff was supposed to be hypo-allergenic?!

Actually i think Clinique products are more suitable for
Teenagers,between 13 to 16 years.
But if u are in the mid 20,u should consider trying Biotherm as
there products are non alcohol & is mild/gentle for very sensitive
skin.Thanks

So I have some spots and pimples, unsmooth face, and sometimes i have redness on my cheeks for no apparent reason (btw, it’s not because of embarrassment). And so I really wanted to try Clinique, because of the clean look and recommendations from others, so I went down to the counter and the lady asked me some questions and everything and told me I’m a type 2 skin. She then recommended 3 step anti-blemish solution. So I bought it for £44 which comes with a free gift mini make up sample products thing.
I went home and used it straight away (not in the afternoon, but morning n night). The clarifying lotion (step 2) burns straight away when I put it on my face, but I think that’s just how it works. But for one thing, I don’t know when to put moisturiser on after the step 2. Do I put it on when my face is still very damp with the lotion from before? Or do I let all the lotion dries up before I put it on?
Anyway, my skin felt great after 2 days with a smoother look and clean feel. Then the 3rd I had a few small pimples which I think was normal as they went away soon afterwards and they said that the 3 step thing would have that effect to your skin when using it for the first time.
But on the 3rd-4th day my skin started to dry up with noticeable dry flakes. It’s like you could scrub it off, with enough force. I thought it was normal or I just haven’t used enough moisturiser. But it still didn’t work so I went to the counter and asked the lady who then gave me 2 samples of 7 day scrub rinse-off cream (for exfoliating) cos I didn’t exfoliate. I’ve used it for about 3 days now and still no effect whatsoever. I still have dry flaky skin and even if I used my other moisturisers it still doesn’t cover it up. I don’t know what to do. I feel embarrassed now. I really want my dry flaky skin to go away.
Oh, and I forgot to mention that after using the 3 step thing my skin feels really tight and strange, especially straight after using it. It feels weird. Please give me some help, I need help. Thanks.

STAY AWAY FROM CLINIQUE! I have had the WORST experience, and my skin has never recovered. It’s a similar experience to many of you, including specifically Ciprina Spizzirri! Jessica Fallows, and anyone else who has experienced this, I’d love to chat - please let me know and I’ll post my email up!
I’ve always had perfect skin. In June 2009 I went to Clinique, and after they conducted their usual skin assessment, I bought Clinique’s 3 Step System, thinking that it was about time I spent some money on my skin, instead of using chemist brand products. How wrong I was!
I rushed home, excited by my expensive purchase. As soon as I put on the toner, my skin burned, went bright red, and took on a painful, sunburn-like appearance. It also flared up with little red dots all over my skin (but mainly around my cheeks and my mouth).
I immediately went back to Clinique the next day and told them what had happened. Irresponsibly, the sales woman told me to continue with the product, because sometimes “it takes a while for the skin to adjust.” I continued using it for a week or so, and after my skin started getting worse, I went to the dermatologist. He diagnosed me with rosacea. I was absolutely shocked!
The dermatologist I saw was pretty bad, so looking back, I think his diagnosis of rosacea is arguable (and probably wrong). After I stopped using Clinique, the redness/burnt appearance of my skin eventually went away (after about 6 months). I do have a tendency to flush/go red more than I used to, and my skin is EXTREMELY sensitive now. I can’t use the chemist brand products I used to use without any problem, because they now give me a rash. I can’t even use Cetaphil like most people (it’s designed for the most sensitive of skin) - I can only use QV (also designed for sensitive skin) - but even then, their night cream gives me a rash!
Almost a year has passed since I used Clinique, but the damaging affects are far from over. I still get a red, spotty like rash on my cheeks and near my mouth most days of the week, that just won’t go away. This is possibly ongoing perioral dermatitis (although my rash looks slightly different to the PD photos on Google so I’m not sure!). Does anyone know what this could be, and how to get rid of it? Neurological symptoms flared up too - tingling and numbness on the left side of my face. I wish I could go back to the day I bought the products and stop myself from doing so! It’s the worst thing I ever did.
HS - I hope you’ve stopped using Clinique. To give some advice, the only product I’ve found that works for me is QV Face Exfoliating Polish - perhaps give it a try? It’s only around $10 and it’s incredibly gentle. Additionally, try to avoid having long, hot showers, and keep your skin out of the sun while it recovers. QV also have a Moisturising Day Cream which also doubles as an SPF+ sunscreen, and it also doesn’t irritate my skin. As aforementioned, their night cream isn’t the best and irritates my skin, so perhaps steer clear of it. Mike - they also have a male skin care range, but I think what I’ve posted could be worth giving a try (can’t comment on the male range, evidently).

I wish I found this site before I bought the three step system. At first, like many, I loved it for about week. After, i started to get this dry, painful spot beside the corner of my lip. I thought I would avoid this area by not putting the toner on it. However, my chin and lower part on my cheeks started to have these dry spots. It was burning !! It was so painful, i hate everything but the dramatically different gel..so far thats the only thing thats okay.
In otherwords, avoid this system completely

I can’t believe how naive I have been. I bought the 3-step system (#2) because the clinique consultant got me convinced. I’ve never had real problems with my skin. Just occasional blemishes and blackheads around my nose, but nothing to be concerned about. So I bought the system and for the first 2 days it went well, the products cleared up my nose area. Then after 3 or 4 days, hell broke loose on my cheeks. I got pimples all over my cheeks (never before a problem area for me!) and to make matters worse, I got blackheads on my chins too. Huge ones!
I went back to the clinique consultant three times and she kept telling me it was normal and I should give it some time.
Two months into using these products I have given up! My skin looks worse than ever and I have the most uneven, red and horrible skin on my cheeks. Tomorrow I am going down to the clinique store again and I will tell them exactly what I think of their products!
The worst thing is the scars! Oh my god, the scars! I am so embarrased and am now forced to cover up my skin with foundation and concealer.
Ladies, if you have the same problem, this is what I suggest (and what I am doing myself right now):
Rinse your face with pure water every evening. Apply a layer of organic honey all over your face (yes, the exact same honey as you would eat). Let it sit for about ten minutes and just rinse off with pure water.
The reason I use honey is that honey is a natural antiseptic. So it will “clean” your skin and fight the pimples. Honey is my only “cleansing routine” at the moment because clinique has messed up my skin so much, that I don’t want to put my face through anything else right now. The honey I’m using is organic and natural. And if you can eat it, you can most definitely put it on your skin too.
Then for my scars, I apply liquid vitamin E to my face. I get them in capsules from my drugstore. Now, I use this because Vitamin E has been shown to penetrate layers of the skin and reduce the formation of free radicals which can interfere with healing. However, this doesn’t always work for everyone, i.e. you cannot be sure that it will help with your specific scars, BUT it will NOT make your scares worse. So you can always try it out just to see if it will help your skin to start healing.
I will never again use clinique and I will never recommend it to anyone.

I’ve used Clinique 3 step and have never had a problem. I have a few friends that use it to and they have all good experience. My skin is clearer than it’s ever been before and soft and evenly toned. The only beef I have with CLinique is their price. I wish it was cheaper
Oh, I’ve use Mary Kay and it made my eyes itch. I do like Bare essentials and Urban Decay and Smash Box too. But the Bare Essentials foundation and everytime I put it on, my face felt itchy for a few minutes. Nothing too extreme but i don’t like using it anymore. I looked online and others have said the same. But some said the New Matte Formula doesn’t have that effect on them. SO now I wanna try that too. So iguess each person have their own experiences with each product…

Hi All,
I have been having constant trouble with a swollen puffed up left eye, I have been to the optomologist countless of times! Until last week i seen a different doctor who examined both of my eyes and she advised me that i have an allergy to something and that it could simply be my foundation or anything i have been using differently lately. I had recently purchased the Clinique All About Eyes Cream, I instantly thought it could be this, as soon as I eliminated putting this on my symptoms and inflamed eyelid has gone. However it has not totally gone 4 days after dis-continuing it, therefore I began thinking it could be my clinique foundation, I have left it off for a day and my eye is totally normal, not inflamed, swollen or nothing, I have been using this foundation for 10 years therefore I feel shocked I have developed a reaction now, therefore I am wondering if the ingrediants have changed or that it is getting manufactured some-where else.
When this whole problem started up wid my eye (months ago now) I decided to buy the pencil eyeliner from clinique due to this brand being advertised as allergy free and fragrance free. Anyway the following day my eyes were inflamed and thats where all my problems have started, turned out I got blepharitis in my eye and I strongly believe its clinique products that are the issue with my eye problem.
I am now looking for a new foundation and I plan NEVER to use clinique products again, I feel relieved having seen this webpage with knowing that so many other people have experienced these problems.

hi, so I didn’t even go out to buy face wash or moisturizer all I wanted was some foundation that was the right colour for my skin and the clinique brand was the 1st one I came across. I was convinced into buying both a foundation and powder. Day 1: that was ok how ever it was a decent night out and so after a long day I never washed my face before I slept. in the morning my face became sore and itchy around my jaw line. Day 2: after washing my face and leaving it for a couple of hours, I re-applied my new makeup not thinking anything of the itch I had before. say about 5 hours later and this itch came back agen but more painfull and rash-like this time. all I wanted to do was get the makeup off my face asap. after getting home I did scrub my face and now 2 days later of appling no product what so ever I still feel rash-like tiny bumps over my entire face and heat also when the rest of my body is freezing, it’s horrible. I’m taking my products back tonight in hope of a full refund! might I add I’ve never had any sort of reactions before to anything! no makeups, hair products, foods. There is something not right with this clinique brand, it’s not worth trying it for the amount they charge you. I’m thankful I stopped straight away. just crossing my fingers now my face will be back to normal soon!

Went to the clinique counter at a leading department store just over a week ago in the vain hope of getting a foundation that is good for my skin tone. The lady there gave me usual speel about how wonderful and hypo-allergenic there products are. The consulatant used a foundation, a concealer round my eyes as well as eyeshadow and heyho I now have eczema round my eyes; not the first time this has happened after using clinique products. They are cowboys

I am 32 and have had blemish free normal skin most of my adult life….. until 8 months ago when I gave birth to my second baby. For some reason since then I have had pretty bad skin. A few pimples here and there every couple of days. Nothing that anyone else would notice but I was not happy with it.
I was so unhappy with the state of my skin and wanted my old clear skin back that I decided I needed a proper skin regime. I was just about to buy Proactiv but did a google serach on ‘Proactiv reviews’ and funnily enough many people on the forums I found said that clinique was just as good, lasted longer and was a bit cheaper. Stupidly, I didn’t google clinique 3 step. Why? I think because it has been around forever and I haven’t actually heard anything negative about it.
So off i went to the Clinique counter, had my skin analysis done and handed over way too much money…. but justified the spend by imagining my fabulous new skin. I was so confident that this product would work!
How very wrong I was……
After using the 3 step bizzo religiously morning and night for 4 days, I noticed my skin was getting worse. I put this down to the 3 step purging my skin of impurities… well I got that from the sales girl who said often your skin gets worse the first few days and then gets better.
After 2 weeks it was not getting any better… in fact it was getting worse. 100 times worse than before I started! But I persisted. I am now 4 weeks in and have not missed a morning or night and oh my god I have full on adult acne! My family and friends have all noticed and I have breakouts in places I have never had before!
I persisted because of the money I spent. I persisted because I was waiting for my skin to ‘purge’ and get better. How long will it take?
Obviously I was so confused by the negative experience I was having that I googled it and found this site and many more might I add. Gosh I wish I had found this before I’d spent money on clinique.
I feel like an idiot. A very pimply idiot.

The effects that have come from using Clinique’s products are truly horrible… I hope everyone’s skin goes back to normal shortly! It’s trial and error with other products, but hopefully we’ll all find stuff that works and doesn’t irritate our now extremely sensitive skin.

Hello, I thought I’d post about my experience this week with Clinique’s 3 step system.
I just came back from the doctors this morning after using Clinique’s 3 step system for over 5 days, luckily enough I stopped using it before it got any worse. It really did clear my skin, it worked straight away, by the second day you could tell the difference, my skin was much smoother and I was really happy with the result, so thinking nothing of it, I continued using it.
It was just when I started noticing that the Clarifying Lotion (2nd Step) started to burn rather than tingle. I didn’t think too much of it, I tried it on the 4th day and it really did burn my face. Apparently I’ve had a bad allergic reaction to it, it’s made all of my skin around my eyes (though I haven’t used it in those areas like I got told not to) really sore, it feels like sunburn, and I’ve come out in really dry patches around my cheeks. Doctor didn’t give me anything towards it, she just told me to leave it and use moisturiser (I use Simple). She said it may take a while to calm down and for the soreness to go.
It’s lucky I didn’t go back to the Clinique counter, by the sounds of it they would’ve told me to continue using it, then there would’ve been a hell of a state on my face, that when I would’ve kicked off! It just shows some brands, doesn’t matter how expensive they are or how cheap, sometimes just doesn’t go with your skin, it’s different with everyone, but I don’t recommend Clinique if you have sensitive skin! I didn’t except my skin to react with Clinique this way!

I have been using clinique’s liquid soap and the dramatically different moisturizing lotion for over 10 years! One day I had a few little breakouts and I decided to try the toner #2 that came with a gift. BAD IDEA. I noticed my skin looked iiritated, didnt think anything of it and went to bed. The next morning I had an uneven texture all over my skin. Like a bunch of small hives. I thought it might be caused by the summer heat in my apt. I put my makeup on went to work. Didnt think about it. 2nd night I used the toner again. Woke up the next with horrible horrible bumps all over my face. The hives got bigger! I went to urgent care they precribed some pills and cortizone cream. Didnt help at all. I went to a dermatologist on the 7th day because the hives turned into millions of little whiteheads and like 6-10 big white head zits. Dermatologist gave me a cortizone shot and some cream prescription. He scheduled me to see him in 2 weeks. I hope it doesn’t take that long to go away! I never in my life have had this type of acne problem! Sigh. I look like a monster. Has anyone tried something that gets rid of the breakouts quicker than quick???

Hi All,
I’ve just spent the past hour or so reading through the various posts and I’m glad I did. I’m a 27 year old guy.
I bought the 3 Step anti blemish range and having been using it for almost a week. My skin has never been brilliant but in the past 12 -18 months it has become so much better. However, it is usually spot free for about 6 weeks then breaks out for a week to ten days and I was hoping I could settle it down permanently.
I was using a deep pore cleanser before but started my new Clinique routine.
1st day - Breakout in the usual places but also in places where I never get spots. Not the best start!!!
2nd, 3rd & 4th day - Breakouts get worse and my neck gets red and blotchy. By the 4th day I’m at my wits end!!
5th - Still blotchy but it seems to getting a bit better. My skin feels really dry in some areas (stopped the 3rd step as my skin can get quite oily and the moisturising is making it worse) but in other areas it feels really smooth. I just shaved and it felt so easy to shave.
To be honest I don’t know what to make of it!! I think the toner is causing the redness and blotching so after tonight I’m not using it. The face wash actually feels quite nice and I feel really clean after using it so I think I will carry on with that for the time being.
I’m a bit gutted to be honest because I had heard so many amazing things about Clinique and only a few horror stories (until I came here) and even then the girls I spoke with who had problems just said it didn’t agree with their skin.
The actual mens range looks more appealing to me but again I’m unsure whether to spend more money as the various products and free samples are starting to mount up!
I hope everyone who has had issues, eventually sorted them out!
Peace

here’s yet another post of clinique trauma:
when prescriptives went out of business, i got a coupon from nordie’s saying come in and get a free full-size clinique foundation. score, i thought! and got the very nice “even better”. a few days later, i thought the skin under my eyes was reacting to the new appearance of the sun (i’m in seattle) and ignored it. two months later, i was at the dermatologist’s office with raised patches of itchy, bright red skin on cheeks, under eyes, you name it. he gave me a strong cream and told me to stop with the clinique immediately.
skin came back to normal, and i decided to try their almost makeup. same reaction, only this time it was a mere 48 hours later. thankfully i still have the tube of rx cream.
obviously too dumb to learn, i went in the other day for a sample of their super rescue anti-oxidant night cream. the sales rep told me that even better foundation has mushroom extract in it, which might be makingm e react.
but tonight, the only super rescue going on my face is, once again, the rx steroid cream from my doc. *SIGH* this time, i’m done with the line forever.

Hi everybody !
( first of all: excuse me for my english I’m dutch so my english isn’t that great!)
I’m really shocked about what I’m reading here !
I have an extremely sensetive skin ( I’m even allergic too ALL the lip-protectors ! Labello, louis widmer ALL off them ! I can only use pure Vaseline… really embarresing !)
i think ’bout a year ago, my mother and I went shopping en in the mall there was a clinique-stand, I went there, explained the troubles I had with my skin and they recommended me the 1-2-3 and a daycream. i bought them and since then I used it every day ! except for step 2, that one I’m only using once a week.
and really my face cleared up ! now my skin is almost perfect ( except for the little black thingies on my nose but those they say I have to let them remove by a beauty-specialist)
maybe you accidently all have chosen the wrong skin-type number ? because I’m sooooooooooooo happy with the clinique 123 ! especially step number 3 ! it feels sooo good in the morning to put that on !
you can always watch my facebook, you’ll see my skin is not that bad ( if you compare how it used to be but from that time I removed all the pictures ofcourse…

Searched the internet because I, too, have been using Clinique for many years and loved it…until recently. Same problems on my face as many others have apparently had. The skin on my eyelids and below my eyes suddenly became darker brown and eventually quite red, extraordinarily puffy, and itched like crazy. When the itching and burning would die down, then the skin above and below my eyes would flake in large flakes. Embarrassing! Tried going without makeup (thankfully did this while on vacation), which cleared up dramatically in about a week. But, back to work and needed makeup so switched brands. Helped somewhat, but find that I need to now keep the makeup off my eyes periodically to again die down the same (but somewhat now less severe) reaction. Also, on other parts of my face, thick itchy patches appeared, one of which is still healing after at least a month with no makeup there. With so many internet posts mentioning Clinique and these symptoms, I now believe that Clinique products have gone awry somehow and that Clinique needs to investigate.

This blog is actually quite good, just discovered it today and really feel like I want to contribute also to this Clinique discussion. If we go back in time about 10 years, I was recommend to use Clinique All About the Eyes (pink) cream which i did for about 2 years. I was really happy with the product so I decided to extend. I bought more creams and serums (now not remeber which ones exactly) and no time, my skin started to dry and I would feel burning sensation at times. At that time I moved to Paris and as a first aid I walked into pharmacy and the lady offered me AVENE products in order to recover my skin. Which I did, I used Avene for a year or so until my skin was back to normal and enough hydrated. Today I am little over 30y and I use DIOR for everything, Cature R60/80 XP series. Absolutely great soution for my skin. However, this works for me, but it may not work for you. I think the best thing is to try and find the suitable products for your skin.

I have been using Clinique on and off since the age of 12, and I am now 27. I have been to esthetician school and just graduated from nursing school. Normally when switching from any product, you will breakout for about the first 2 weeks and gradually breakouts should go away within the first month. You should always give it about a good month to really be sure you are using the right product. If your eyes are swollen and red, you are having some kind of allergic reaction and need to stop using it. When I first started using Clinique I was a skin type 2. During my teenage years, I became a skin type 3 due to hormones. When I used skin type 2, I never really noticed a problem but when I switched to skin type 3 I noticed a problem a few years later. I had developed a sensitivity to it and my cheeks would burn. My skin was raw, sensitive to touch, felt like I had a chemical peel and went out in the sun without sunscreen. I would skin type myself online and I would always end up a skin type 3. I eventually stopped using the facial products I was using at that time to let the sensitivity go away. It took 6 months. I dropped down to a skin type 2 clarifying lotion, mild soap, and moisturizing gel. Just recently. Skin Type 3 in addition to the soap and gel lotion is too drying. Anyone with these problems should drop down a skin type. My face cleared up within a week from dropping down a skin type. When I only dropped the clarifying lotion but continued to use the oily soap, I found that the bar soap was too drying for me and I am pretty oily in the T zone and comfortable in the cheeks. Skin type 3 system would leave my cheeks tight and dry. Skin type 2 system leaves my face pretty comfortable at the end of my skin type regimen. I am going to continue using the clarifying lotion 2 and probably continue using it as long as I’m getting good results. I also experience breakouts and those cleared up also using this system plus the oily exfoliating scrub. It’s very important to make sure that you are using the right products for your skin type, and know that the computer isn’t always right. I’m not using anything it suggested except for the gel. If your face feels very dry and tight at the end of your regimen and your moisturizer doesn’t feel as if it’s moisturizing enough, it’s probably your soap is too drying and get a milder soap. That was a problem for me.

I am never using their products again. My skin is sooo swollen, and red and itchy because all the alcohol in the toner. It’s terrible. Be aware people, I used the MILD version, and my face is messed up now
so sad! If this happens to you, stop using anything but a moistutizer for a couple of days. Your skin will eventually get back to normal, I promise! I’ve tried this before, and first now I realized that it was this system my skin was reacting to. BOO CLINIQUE. I recommend Shiseido. It’s AMAZING, and IS A LOT MORE MILDER TO YOUR SKIN. And their products doesn’t smell like a bottle of gin. Just saying. good luck to everyone.

For the first time in my life, I decided to purchase Clinique products. They’re expensive for my budget but since I have tiny red dots on my legs NO MATTER WHAT I do, I spoke with an online Clinique consultant and a consultant at the sales counter about what I should use. I had very easily irritated legs, severe razor burn, and keritosis on the backs of my arms and legs. I know nothing can cure keritosis, but I was seeking something that may lessen the appearence of it. I wound up with the following products:
1) Turn around smoothing cream (to use for backs of arms and legs)
2) Sparkle skin exfoilating cream (recommended to use before shaving)
3) Men’s shave cream (to help soften my leg hair and making shaving easier)
Within 10 minutes of me leaving the counter with the products, my hands had starting itching. I assumed this was because the sales consultant had me try so many different products on my hands to feel consistency, etc. I went home and showered and used all 3 products and went to sleep. When I woke up the next morning, I still had itchy hands and the bottoms of my feet had started to itch. At first it was a mild itch. It is now day two and my itching is OUT OF CONTROL. Other parts of my body are beginning to itch as well. I have used anti-itch lotion, hydrocortisone cream, I have showered to remove the products…NOTHING seems to help. Yesterday I returned the products to the counter for a full refund.
I have made an appointment with my doctor to get something that will stop the itching and I spoke to another consultant for Clinique who referred me to an email address to send a request for a list of active ingrediants in their products to take to the doctor with me.
This has been an absolute NIGHTMARE and I will NEVER purchase from Clinique again. 100% allergen free, yeah right.

I tried the Clinique 3-step system and will NEVER use it again. I have combo/oily skin and only had a pimple every once in a while. I heard how “wonderful” Clinique was so I tried it. They told me that I would see some breakouts but after a few weeks my face would be clear. It took about two weeks for my skin to start breaking out. I used it for about a month and a half and I was breaking out so badly that parts of my face hurt. I stopped using it and returned the products. The ladies at the counter and the consultants online told me that the breakouts were supposed to happen and that I should stick with it, but I wasn’t having it. It’s a month later and my skin still looks horrible. Its slowly getting better, but I still have tiny bumps on my forehead (some of which are blackheads that I’ve NEVER had there before) and lots of red, deep cystic pimples around my chin and mouth area. Clinique ruined my skin.

Bought Cliniques 3 step system this weekend. I didn’t react when I put the things on, but the next morning the area around my eyes was swollen and red. I also felt a slight burning and rashness. I couldn’t believe it was Clinique as the products should be especially good for sensitive skin. The next day I felt the rash immediately when I out the all about eyes-cream on. So I googled it up and found so many similar stories. I would really like to see some official tests on these products, and a full list of ingredients. I think this is absolutely horrible!

I have the exact same symptoms as many of you…I used Cliniques soap and moisturiser and within 4 days I developed tiny, itchy red bumps all over my face. I then tried to go back to my normal skin care products and I can no longer use them because my skin is now ultra sensitive to everything (I never had sensitive skin in the past).
My skin is now very dry and flaky and horrible extra tiny bumps come and go - I think it’s perioral dematitis. I have changed my diet and started taking loads of vitamins, but nothing seems to help. I don’t know what to use on my skin anymore because everything seems to irritate it including organic, natural products. I used to have smooth, flawless, glowing skin and always received loads of compliments. It has now been six months since I used Clinique and my skin has still not recovered and I’m very depressed about it. I hate going out and facing people because I feel so complexed about my dry, irritated, flaky, sesitive, tight skin.
I think that Clinique strips the skins protective acid mantle (which is a very important protective layer on the surface of our skin) and causes an imbalance which can take a very long time to rectify.
The fact that Clinique advertises their products as hypoallergenic and gentle is a joke!

For those of you who are having issues with the product I am almost positive it is because your consultant directed you incorrectly. I used to be a consultant years ago, and I had to go through classes and I have worked with so many customers. It takes more than a few questions to figure out what exact products that you need to use. The consultant should have begun by using the clinique calculator to figure out what skin type you are. Also, it’s not a one size fits all deal. I personally use the oily soap and I have to switch between a 3 and 2 clarifying lotion. Also, you should know that the clarifying lotion is NOT a toner. It may be similar to a toner, but its purpose it to remove the top layer of dead skin and it should prep your skin for a moisturizer. If you are using a clarifying lotion that is too strong it will burn your skin. You should feel a slight tingle after using the Clarifying lotion. As far as testing goes, Clinique has different guidelines than others. When you see the phrase Allergy tested, it is telling you that it has been tested on humans over 1,000 times. I used to know the exact number, but it has been a while. Any educated consultant should be able to tell you the exact number. They test the product on humans and if there is a reaction, they reformulate the product. This does not mean that nobody will be allergic to the product. There are always exceptions to the rule. There could be an ingredient in the product that you are allergic to that is triggering the reaction. I have seen 1 or 2 clients with a reaction, but it really is rare. If you are experiencing problems then it is obviously wise to stop using the product. I use many different products, but for me I have had nothing but positive results with clinique products. I no longer work for the company and I am not exactly partial. I use other companies products for other things that seem to work best for me. It is a good company and if you experience problems like burning, you should re-visit your consultant. He or she should be able to sit down and figure out what was the problem. If necessary you should exchange the product. I hope maybe this helps somebody. The key to a good experience is to find a good consultant who is caring and willing to work with you.
p.s. if you need an alcohol free clarifying lotion…ask for the extra mild. It contains aloe and no alcohol!

Hi there, I have not used the Clinique face care range and I am glad! I always thought that it smelt too chemical like and the fact that the consultants are wearing lab coats sort of worried me! I do however use their foundation which I find has not helped my skin in the slightest (so I started googling Clinique and came across this) ! I have combination skin but as of late have had broken skin and blemishes that will not heal. It is only now clearing up after about 5-6 months (especially the chin and cheek area). I have tried EVERYTHING to rid it of it and have finally found a product that is all natural ingredients and has done wonders in only 3 days! my doctor also advised cortisone but the pharmacist insisted that it would be too harsh and not to use that on my face. I went to a beautician who advised me to use Dermalogica to clear up the infections (another VERY harsh acid type cleanser) which completely stripped and burnt my face causing a rash to overtake my whole face after 3 days! I imagine Clinique would be no different as even the smell of it is similar! So after much frustration I was recommended a product called Aesop. I am not sure where you are all writing from (I am in Aust and Aesop is a Melb, Australia company but you may be able to get it online). Their skin care is absolutely divine and it has cleared up all the rashes and redness of irritated skin I had and my infected blemishes ! It is all natural products such as lavender, chamomile, jasmine, tea tree oil and other numerous natural ingredients and has no sulfate in the skin washes (which causes dryness for some people). They have cleansers which are oil based (this makes sense as oil can only be removed by oil when cleaning the skin). I bought a toner which hydrates and takes out the redness in my skin and a face mask which you can feel its effects as soon as you put it on. Their moisturiser is amazing and is not greasy at all. You skin feels cleans the whole day. I was recommended the parsley seed range and believe me IT WORKS! it is not cheap but well worth it and now feel great by just wearing a light pressed powder without any make up. I have decided to rid the Clinique foundation now and go back to using a foundation by Sothys Paris (also not cheap, about AU$70 a tube) but very good for temperamental skin such as mine. Check out Aesop though def to try and counteract the damage Clinique has done! http://www.aesop.net.au/ And another trick, Tea Tree Oil medicated gel (not the actual oil as that is too harsh!) is good to dab on those cyst like blemishes (which is what I had and means there is an infection under the skin and i imagine would be better than cortisone cream). Hope this helps ladies!

hey girls i work for clinique (just started 2mos ago) and have been using 3 step #2 have not had a problem like some of you guys. no i do not like it , i quit using it because it was drying to me. i have worked in the cosmetic bussiness for 30 years and i beleive that you must clean your face ,soften ,(with something without alcolo) and moistize with a good moisture and wear sun screen this is the only way to beat old skin . i’am 60 and have use every thing there is to use i have very few wrinkles.
and to yet you know you girls that had the problems with clinique was not cause from the product because if it was ,it would have clearn up in a very short time so you can not blame it all on clinique it would not be allow on the market if it did that much damage even to one person( sheisedo is the best)

Hi Guy’s, I bought Clinique acne solutions and used it for about 2 weeks and I felt that my cheeks were getting a little swollen. When a friend of mine asked me if I just got my wisdom teeth removed (because she thought my face was swollen), I knew something was wrong with the product. I went back and was talked into using a different more milder system, so I did. for the first two weeks my face looked really nice, but after that it started to irritate and have itchy bumps along the sides of my face. I continued to use it for about two months. I hoped that it was just dragging the deep hidden oil and dirt out, but it just seems to be irritating me and I am breaking out in places that I never had pimples before. Also, it looks like a rash, not really pimples. It hurts and I am switching tonight. Hopefully the other wash (Biore) works. We’ll see. P.S., I thought I was the only one with this problem. Its crazy because I recognize most of the sypmtoms you guys have in my own skin after using clinique. Good luck. i know it sucks to have crappy skin. especially after investing money into a product that you thought would work.

I just use the moisturizing gel. The soap is not with it, my skin works best with regular hand soap. The antibacterial agents could be the reason. The toner stings. So I just use the gel. Works great, I stopped having acne, mostly. Only a few near my nose- before, it was all over my forehead. But when I don’t use it, even for a night, I find that I wake up with red splotches on my cheeks and nose. Before this gel, I didn’t put anything on before bed either, and my cheeks might wake up a little dry, but nothing of this sort. It works, but now I can’t not use it…. I hope they didnt put something in it to make it so u need to use it. Maybe thr gel changes my skin, and the splotchiness is m skin re-balancing? They also wanted me to get 2 other products- antiaging and sunscreen. Im 20. I shouldn’t need more than a single sunscreen lotion. The aveeno one is fabulous, if a bit greasy-feeling. I’m still looking for the perfect one.

Have had the same problem with my skin/Clinique. I am wondering how long it will take my skin to recover after stopping. I have itchy red patched, acne like bumps. Don’t know what to do to soothe them - calming cream actually hurts when I put it on. The only thing that seems to soothe right now is Eucerin Acquaphor, which is like vaseline. YIKES! THIS IS HELL.

My mother-n-law (in Florida) has been a faithful user of Clinique products for over 30 years, specifically lipsticks, face moisturizer and cheek coloring cream. Generally, the good quality has been consistently throughout the years until a couple of years ago, and especially yesterday (October 4, 2010) when she experienced a more severe allergic reaction to the face moisturizing cream!
She claims that right after using the cream, her face became very swollen and red, especially under her eyes! In addition to tightness of the skin, she felt terrible itching and burning all over her face. Although she contacted her doctor to seek medical treatment immediately, I advised her to cancel because after hearing about her condition, I decided to search the Internet for “allergic reactions to the face,” and based on other women’s testimonials, it became evident that it was an allergic reaction to the Clinique face cream and the doctor would not be able to do anything about it. Although, she had applied her to her face last Friday (October 1, 2010), it became more severe as days passed!
I suggested for her to use Aloe Vera Gel to relieve the pain of the burning and itching and to make sure to stay away from all products, especially from Clinique or Ester Lauder since they are one company.
Desperately yours,
Barb
P.S. I asked her to take pictures of her swollen face and to save the products.
Perhaps this has to do with the fact the Clinique is now being made in China, according to what my mother-n-law remembers reading from the box label.
Also, it was so ironic to see that as soon as I entered my search an article on Clinique/Ester Lauder came up regarding a lawsuit in progress!!!
Desperately yours,
Barb

I am not a professional, but I believed that all these allergic reactions are because you didn’t find the right set of skincare for yourself. I tried out #3, and had all the above descriptions except for the yellowing. But then I went and tried #2, and it was simply AMAZING!!! My acne cleared completely within one week, and it never came back. Now I don’t know if something horrible will happen to my face eventually, but i will watch out. My mother ran out of her Dior face wash, and asked to borrow my Clinique ones. She said it was absolutely horrible quality. She also said it feels just like normal soap and doesn’t feel like a 60-dollar skincare kit at all! So I was very shocked… but maybe Clinique is experiencing problems because it is being made in China?

I purchased this product 9/22/10 & have used it faithfully for about 5 weeks. The 1st week my skin looked bright and healthy up until the 3rd week it was so so clear. The only thing I didn’t like was how dry step 2 made my skin & that I had to use so much of the lotion so it didn’t feel so dry. Fastforward to now & it’s dry and I have a bunch of little bumps all over my cheesks, flaky skin around my nose and on my cheek. WTF

I TOTALLY AGREE. Clinique, for a brand that makes you pay out the backside and states it is allergy tested, is absolutely horrible.
I had the most hideous rash reaction on my nose from the 3-step system and had to wear an embarrassingly huge bandage over it for days! I’ve now got a scar from it, and my skin texture still hasn’t fully recovered!
Unless, of course, by “allergy tested” they mean it doesn’t contain penicillin, nuts or dairy products, which in that case I stand corrected

I purchase the Clinique 3 step about 4 days ago and have notice a development of dry patches and burning. Also small bumps on my skin. There has also been a small change in my skin tone. I poured the acne solution clarifying lotion down my toilet and noticed that it actually cleaned my toilet. I was terrified because I had been using this on my face. I am an African American woman and wouldn’t recommend this product.

I’ve never reacted to anything and recently got a Clinique moisturiser (i think repairwear) and after 3 days my face has come out in a hot, red, swollen rash. Its spreading to my ears so I’m seeing a Dr today. Further, when i went to the counter to return the product the ladies were hugely unsympathetic, didn’t advise me about anything I could do to ease the reaction, and argued about returning the product!!! Horrendous!! I’ve been in tears over this ghastly reaction. I’ll be sticking to my £2.50 Nivea moisturiser from now on!!
PS: the counter I went to was in Debenhams in Lakeside, for everyone’s information.

I have been using this product for about 3 years now and I haven’t had any problems. I noticed in many of the above postings that you mention that you purchased the products in pounds. Are some of you living in England or Australia and is this maybe where these shipments of Clinique from China are going? I’d be interested. I live in Canada and have not heard of these problems nor have my friends.

Hey Everyone! I just spent $103 on clinique 3 step and redness solutions, just started two days ago and the toner burns my skin while aplying, but then goe away. But when I woke up this morning I had a dry red patch, very small, above my lip and flaky sore skin around nose. SHOULD I STOP USING TONER, OR CONTINUE?!because I have no clue what to do, I don’t want it to get worse, but I also wanted to wait and see if it clears up! HELP PLEASE!!!

I cursed that I didn’t come across this page before I bought & used Clinique 3 step program. But I’m still lucky that I read this before continue putting them on my face. After only 3 days my cheeks & chin dry up and start to be flaky. The surrounding of my eyes is swollen, red and itchy like hell. 4 out of 4 of my friends who tried this product also had bad reaction. I don’t know why such a bad product isn’t discontinued yet!

I recently bought a pack of Clinique lipglosses. A few weeks later, I started getting all these blisters on my top lip and it was red and itchy. Went away and I thought maybe my lips had burnt or I’d gotten some weird cold sore or something. A few days later, it came back & it still blistering, dry, flakey, itchy, red, swollen and numb. I havent been putting anything on it since it started and it’s slowly improving. I’m not saying it’s definitely the lipgloss - I was on holidays in a different state with very dry, hot air where I’m used to warm, humid air so maybe weather or pollen or something else that I came into contact with that I wasn’t used to, but I will admit that the most likely cause is the lipglosses. I’ve also used the 3 step process (trial sizes, luckily) and had very similar experiences to what others have said, although it sounds as if I was very lucky, as my skin went back to normal within a few weeks after I stopped, especially lucky as I have very sensitive, easily irritated skin so normally any reaction I have is one of the worst possible!
One point I want to make though, to people who Clinique worked for and who are saying it’s probably that people used the wrong system for their skin. It may be designed for different skin types, but I would NEVER expect to have such a horrible reaction, even if I did use something that wasn’t designed for my skin, unless I was actually allergic or having a reaction to something in the product. Example - I am 22 years old, my mum is in her 50’s I’ve used her face creams which are designed for her skin type, not mine. It may make my face greasy or something, due to how moisturizing it is, but I’ve never had such a bad reaction just because I used a skincare product not designed for my skin. You shouldn’t use other peoples mascara, etc, due to germs and because it’s in close contact with the eyes, etc - this not sharing doesn’t apply to skincare at all, even if not right for your skin type, you should be able to use a product without it’s horrific, painful effects lasting for weeks, months or years and requiring Dr’s visits and still affecting your skin years down the track.
If my lip problems were caused by Clinique, I’m just so glad that’s all it’s affected and the only product I’ve used rather than the effects of Clinique’s range affecting my face in the future due to using the entire skincare line. Seems as if, although I’ve had a bad Clinique experience too, I’m one of the lucky ones!

I’ve never treated my skin particularly well - I’m not really into make-up or a big beauty routine. However, I’ve always suffered from a very oily t-zone that also has dry patches.
3 days ago my boyfriend treated me to the (large) 3 step, the airbrush, and pressed powder (which I’ve used trouble- free for years).
Bearing in mind I’ve put my poor old skin through some real sh** in the past, I can’t believe what Clinique, an expensive product, has done to my skin. In the last two days my nose has become so dry and flaky, but with massive flakes, it’s so embarassing at work. My forehead is even shinier, and my nose is shiny with dry skin on top (if that makes sense).
Aghhhh Awful! What a waste of money!
The Clinique lady also gave me some other moisturisers as testers (she said the yellow moisturiser is just a “moisurising primer”) and I’ve been using them
I’m gutted - over £120 for a spotty, dry, tight face.
Should have stuck to Boots own for under a tenner for the lot!!!!!

WOW it is good to know I’m not the only one who had my skin completely RUINED by Clinique 3-step. Luckily my skin has completely recovered from it, as I switched to Mario Badescu products about a month and a half ago. But before this, thanks to Clinique, my skin was the worst it had ever been.
The toner would burn like crazy every single time I used it, but I naively tried to convince myself that this was just the toner deep cleansing and “doing its job.” Wrong. After 2 weeks of use, my skin was burned and bright red. Everyone noticed. EVERYONE commented that my skin looked very burned and red. I broke out in tiny little red bumps (acne?) all over my forehead, nose, chin, and jaw. And cystic acne, too. Lots of that.
I thought they would never go away, but after 6 weeks of Mario Badescu thankfully the worst is gone. I suffered from acne prior to using 3-step, but never as AWFUL as this. I would look in the mirror and cry and cry, and not want to leave the house - it was that bad. It’s really just baffling to me that a popular skin system that prides itself on safe, “allergy-tested,” “dermatologist-tested” products could wreak SO much havoc on my skin… and apparently everyone else’s!!!
Aside from their Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel, which I actually love, I will not be buying ANY Clinique products ever again - no skincare, no makeup.

Hello all, I have had the same reaction - redness all over the face. I am not sure which specific product is causing it. anyhow, for the relief from the redness pl. do try using aloe vera gel (being sold in wholefoods etc) all over you face at night and see ! that really really helps !
Thanks !

Wish I had seen this sooner. I just spend a bunch of money on foundation, moisture surge?, powder, eye makeup, lip gloss, lip pencil, etc. I’m mostly a tomboy with moderate acne (I’m in my 20s) and I know next to nothing about makeup. I have job interviews coming up and none of my female friends could help me in terms of makeup. So, I went in for a free makeover at the Clinique counter and I wore the makeup for about 8 hours. I did notice a slight rise in pimples on my forehead, and my eyes burned slightly (though they also burn slightly with Purpose moisturizing lotion too and my mom claims its normal). However, I seemed fine for the most part.
It’s been over a week since I used the makeup (haven’t had any on since the makeover) and I only plan on wearing this makeup during job interviews. Has anyone had a major reaction from their makeup? I’ve only worn it once (with the exception of their moisturizing chapstick which I got for free years ago and love it). Should I keep wearing it since I haven’t had any serious reactions yet? Or did most of the reactions occur after prolong use of the product? I’m a tomboy and already have issues with acne. I really don’t want to add skin rashes, burns, etc to the list since I don’t have insurance.

I decided to try out the Clinique 3-Step program because I decided it was time that I stop hiding behind tons of makeup and do something about my uneven skin. I was told that Clinique is good for sensitive skin because it doesn’t use fragrances and such things so I bought their products in the hope that they would clear up my skin enough so I could lay off the foundation.
It didn’t take too long before I started to break out into the kind of pimples you get when you’re a teenager (I’m now 23); the larger ones that are really under your skin, and a bunch of smaller bumps too. These have developed on my cheeks and chin and do not seem to want to go away.
I used the products for maybe 3-4 weeks, hoping it was just my skin adjusting to them, but it failed to stop producing such results so I stopped using them. It’s been at LEAST a month since I stopped using the Clinique products and my face has yet to recover; it looks terrible and much worse than what I used to try to hide with all that makeup, I have no idea what to do about it.
I have also read somewhere that triethanolamine (TEA) is an ingredient in certain cosmetics that is a skin irritant; Clinique is supposed to be good for sensitve skin yet the 3-Step system lists TEA as one of its ingredient, go figure…

Hey guys,
Here to save the day for everyone whos suffered a severe allergy from Clinquie. I was one of those people unfortunately. I suffered terriably with a rash underneath my eyes that left me completely photosensitive for 6 months…I couldn’t go into sunlight without the rash flaring up terriably. I had quite a severe reaction, unusal as I am not an allergy sufferer, and my skin has never been sensitive! The doctor put it down to skincare that was far too harsh (read the ingrediants…everything is synthetic.)
Anyway, I got over the rash eventually, even though I was convinced I would have it eternally and I wouldnt be able to go into sunlight again…it felt like that!
To get over, firstly, I switched to organic skincare (organic to ensure no nasty chemicals. You can get fantastic organic skincare! I use KORA by miranda kerr (the supermodel…so you know it must be pretty alright!). That really helped desensitize my skin. Now I dont even use chemical based skincare as I get such good results from KORA. Another good skincare is Avene, the french brand. You can get it from most drugstores and it is known for helping sensitive skin.
I also switched to natural based makeup. I like the australian brand Inika. There foundations are incrediable and make your skin look flawless. Surgerns recommed Inika to patients who have just had cosmetic surgery as it is so pure and natural on the skin.
As for the rash itself I started using rosehip oil on it at night and found it to be so healing and rejuvenating on my skin. I had to avoid sun and became a “hat person” but its paid off as my skin can now tolerate the sun…yes!
I also recommend a really good sunscreen. I use QV spf 30 daily mostrizing lotion. At the time of the rash my skin could handle the stuff, so Ive stuck by it.
I think in general, make sure you look after yourself.Sugar stimulates the inflammation response in your body while veges and healthy foods repress it. Eat healthy and your notice a diference in your skin and your body will heal itself quicker.
The rash will pass. I went to so many doctors and specialist who had no idea what I had. I was stressed out to the max and was so upset. But eventually, through alot of experiementing with products and self-help I eventually found what worked and healed myself. You can too!
xoxo

I have used Clinique for over 15 years because a dermotologist told me it was the best for my skin. I never had trouble with it - but they changed the balanced make up to super balanced makeup and I can figure what exactly I am allergic to ,,,but I have large welps all over my face like hives they burn and itch and wont go away … I went back to clinique and bougt the makeup for redness and it still is not working = now when I use the mosturizer I have used for years my face burns like it is on fire … i don’t know what to use because I have never been able to use makeup you buy from the drug stores …. any ideas?

Well! I am also a clinique skin care hater! It is very weird but any form of skin care I use under that brand makes me break out hectic! A couple of days ago i used city sheer block or something (i have a mini tube left from gift packs) because I needed some moisture to my skin before my foundation because I was out of primer, anyway today my skin is horrible! I have 12 blemishes from just using that cream once. Argh but anyway i love cliniques makeup, i wouldnt go any other brand, my whole face of makeup is pretty much clinique woo!

I had an awful allergic reaction to the Clinique Even Better moisturizer. I broke out in a severe rash everywhere it touched my skin, face, hands, and arms. It was red and itchy like a poison ivy rash and lasted 2 weeks. I have never had an allergic reaction to a cosmetic before (or after) and will never use this line of products again!!

I used the dramatically different moisturizer and it ruined my skin. For almost a year it caused contact dermatitis where the area around my chin, upper lip and between my eye brows was so dry, red and raw. I wanted to wear make up to cover it up but my skin was so dry it only looked worse. To make it better I kept applying the Clinique lotion thinking they say it is so natural and good for your skin this has to help. Little did I know it continued to make it worse. From this I have developed melasma (hyperpigmentation) on my upper lip and between my eye brows. It will never go away and it looks like I have a mustache. It is heart breaking as that is all I see now in pictures. I have not used Clinique for about a year and the dermatitis is gone but my face is very sensitive to all products now and according to my dermatlogist I will forever have the hyperpigmentation. I wish I had known about it before I was forever scarred. Though this post may sound dramatic, being a woman how we look is important and when I see myself all I see are dark patches and the inability to wear makeup anymore to enhance my look

I started using Clinique products in January after going about 6 months without wearing any makeup at all. I tried the 3-step system (#1) which broke me out within 12 hours of the first use. I also got the Moisture Sheer tinted moisturizer, which breaks me out terribly, and leaves my skin red, blotchy, and acne-prone. (I’ve never had a problem with acne in my life!) So, a couple weeks ago, I switched back to my tried-and-true Cover Girl foundation and my skin is clear once again. Expensive is not always better!

There is not one main factor that causes acne and it is stimulated by hormones, stress, puberty, food, and other factors.

I have used Clinique for a long time, ten yrs or so. I never had a problem until they discontinued their balanced makeup. For awhile I could find it thru a web site “gone but not forgotten”, but even their supply is depleted. I was forced to start all over again looking for a foundation makeup. I have been using the 3 step program without any problems until I had to switch to a different foundation. Now I am a mess!!!!!!! I have tried all of Cliniques foundations and experienced itchy pimples all over my face, but more on my forehead. My forehead skin burns also. They have added something to the foundations that was not in the balanced foundation. When I used the balanced foundation you could wash it off your hand after applying with just water. Now with the new stuff it just beads up and have to use soap to get it off. Don’t know where to start now because my skin is so irritated. I’m 69 yrs old. Too old to have pimples all over my face. Returning the last makeup to the Clinique gals, who have been very nice and refund my money, but now what? I did look at the box to see where it was made after reading some gals said China. This one says Belgium. Going to let this skin rest, it’s just going out in public that is embarrassing.
Venting is good. Thanks Bev

I am 43 and used Clinique for 3 weeks. I noticed very fine circular lines were forming under my eyes and when I smile they were all over my cheeks too. Now, I feel a slight burn on my right cheek. Before Clinique, I had no fine lines since my skin is very oily and after reading these posts. I got rid of the 3-step system. It was a gift from my niece and I will go back to using Proactiv. No thank you Clinique! Please, I do not recommend this product.

I just want say that I had the same results at Kira. I returned the product for a full refund and the woman at the counter wouldn’t believe me when I said the lotion burned. Clinique likes to say that it take two weeks for a product to work properly but that is untrue in science, sorry. I have noticed a change in product formulas, Clinique is using phenoxyethanol (preservative) in their products which is NOT supposed to go in eye products. Japan only allows it for some face products and in a minut amount. It is not legal in Japan for use in eye products or lip products. You should look this chemical up, it is known to cause dermatitis and eczema, but also reproductive and organ failure. This is not a allergen free chemical. In its 100% state it will kill you.

I’m so very glad I found this article and read all of these comments. It’s the ONLY place on the internet projecting the TRUTH about Clinique products. It’s been several months since I’ve used Clinique and my face is STILL severely injured.
Reading through all the recommendations for recovery, I’m slowly trying each one for relief.
Who knew a simple trip to Macy’s Clinique counter could ruin your face and complexion for MONTHS with no hope for healing and returning to normal?!?

I came across this site randomly after searching for makeup issues after having some of my own with Clinique. First of all I’d like to say I’ve been using Clinique for 15+ yrs and was a faithful follower until now. I had a reaction to some products and am going to be following up with them. I have been working on getting through to corporate for a year now and I’m very happy to say that I finally got an email from a gal who is from Clinique Global Communications. I have an appointment to speak with her. There are several issues I will be bringing up to her. And after coming across this website, I will definately be telling her she needs to read through it. I am saddened by so much. I am extremely anxious to finally get to talk to one of the higher up people. I have waited a year for this. And let me say, our conversation isn’t going to consist of me screaming at her. I am going to genuinely tell her how concerned I am. I just hope my voice is heard.

2 weeks ago I bought the Clinique 3-Step. A few days later I noticed my face was becoming much drier and rougher. Thinking I was using too much product I decided to use less and applied more moisturizer hoping that the dryness would go away. It didn’t.
A week later, my mum noticed rashes on my cheeks and asked if I was using a new product. Immediately I stopped using the the line and tried to wash the product of my skin. However later that night, the rashes on my face worsened and my cheeks began to feel like they were on fire. All the shops were closed and so to soothe the rash I laid a cold towel over my face and that helped to temporarily soothe my skin.
I did some googling online and found out that TONS of people were had the same reaction to Clinique products as I had. After reading the comments from others, my heart literally sank and I thought I would never get my skin back. And so I just want to let you guys and girls know! that it CAN go away. Just stop using Clinique IMMEDIATELY as soon as you realise something is not right.
Another thing I realised that helped soothe the rashes was an oatmeal face mask. For about 4 days, I stayed away from EVERY facial product and applied warm oatmeal over my face for a couple of minutes and then washed it off. It is also crucial to make sure your face is well moisturized because I’ve read that in some cases the skin may start flaking.
I also went to the pharmacist and got some pills that helped to reduce the allergic reaction. Its been a week now and my face is back to normal. So if you’re going through the same thing as I did, DONT PANIC it IS possible to get back your normal skin.

I bought the three step system exactly a month ago. The first few days were great. It made my skin feel nice and smooth. Well, that’s where the “pros” end. I now have acne like I did back when I was 13. I never break out on my forhead, and now I have small pimples ALL OVER. I’ve been getting whiteheads all over my nose as well. I went back to Younkers and talked to the clinique ladies. They suggested I try the number 3 toner instead of the number 4 and try a daily scrub for the whiteheads. I’ve been doing that for a week and my face just seems to be getting worse. I don’t know what to do. I feel defeated. I didn’t keep my reciept so I don’t even know if I can get my money back for this stuff. I know people say Proactive doesn’t work, but at least it didn’t make me break out more.

I am very happy that i found this site!
I had been using another brand for many years then suddenly decided to change to another a few months ago. I thought the previous brand wasn’t suitable for me anymore as my face got very oily. Then read some reviews on the internet and people seemed to recommend clinique. So I gave it a try and got the 3-step kit in travel size. they lasted a month but by that time i already got spots all over my forehead and by the sides of my nose. i didn’t know what the problem was and thought it would just take time for my skin to get used to new skincare stuff. so i went to buy the 3-step in full size. told the consultant the spots problem, then she recommended me to get the anti-blemish range if i want to clear my spots. it didn’t help much and the anti-blemish facial wash (full size) only lasted a month!! went back to buy another facial wash, picked the Skin type 3 one but now i have more breakouts, like almost one new spot each day and some can be big and painful! I don’t know what I should do now given I still have quite a lot of the stuff left (4/5 bottle of facial soap, half a bottle of the clarifying lotion, 1/3 of Step 3 moisturizer, and almost new moisture surge moisturizer)!!! spent quite a lot in the last few months as i thought it was a good brand!! my boyfriend was shocked to see me without my make up one day as he had never seen me with so many spots on my face especially forehead!

Same issues here with the breakouts, the overdrying. You name it- I got it from Cliniques products. But what seems strange to me is how so many people are having the same problems, yet not a remedy to be seen from Clinique. Before I purchased and used these products, my opinion of Clinique was that they were really quite reputable. I guess I will be changing my mind! I just don’t understand how a supposed renound company can continue letting their reputation hang by a thread. I will never buy a product from Clinique again , nor will I recommend them to anyone.

Wow! I cannot believe I stumbled across this site only AFTER the fact I’ve probably spent close to 500$ on skin care products from Clinique. I was using the 3-step also with #2 Clarifying Lotion, along with the Intensive eye cream at night and the “all about eyes” serum. I have been using it for close to a year now and just decided to stop using it. Well, once I did and switched to another product my skin literally feels like it has been burned. It is peeling, tight, with wrinkles around it especially around my eyes where I put the eye cream. It hurts to smile and laugh and I can barely open my mouth to eat without it cracking in pain. I’m just going to leave it alone and hopefully it will go down within a few days but man is it ever painful!!! I just wish I never wasted all that money on a product that would do this to my skin! Everyone needs to think twice before purchasing ANY clinique skin care product! Your skin is beautiful the way it is!

As I am reading this, I am experiencing a bad allergic reaction to Clinique. I have uber-sensitive skin but I mildly react to facial products which are usually little breakouts and dryouts. However, I got prescribed Clinique and I am into my third week and all of a sudden I am getting red blotches and rashes on my nose - something I have never had in my life except when I am hyperventilating. By the fourth day my face is burning after a wash, and on the fifth day my face is covered with red blotches and rashes and I had an interview which I could not cancel. I was sitting at starbucks thinking I have lupus malar rash due to my joint issues, but heck no, I start researching and find out that it is my clinique. Freaking waste of a hundred bucks! I could sue them if I had to because now I have to take allergy medications to bring this reaction down and look normal.

The only thing I really had problems with during my Clinique experience was the sales woman telling me that their products were 100% hypoallergenic. Alarm bell number 1 started ringing. If people can be allergic to plain and simple water (I’m talking pure H2O) and even natural processes of their own bodies, then I could sure as hell be allergic to their products. People can be allergic to anything.
I decided to go in for a make-up test, to see what would happen. Just eyes, lips and cheeks, no foundation. Yikes! The woman was poorly trained, did each eye un-evenly and I could feel the eye shadow powder getting into my eyes. Before going to the appointment I’d carefully cleaned my eyes with Lidcare and flushed them out with saline, because I know how reactive they can be. My eyes were burning and swelling before she’d even finished her work.
When I finally got home to clean off the make-up the Lidcare pads felt indescribably rough and my eyes are still grainy and swollen today. I’m really just glad that I didn’t buy the cosmetics suggested, it would have been a $250 waste

Hey guys. I just got the 3 step system in type 3. I’ve been using it morning and night daily for 4 days now and I don’t see anything that is different with my skin. I have mild acne, not a lot at all just a cluster on my cheeks and a little on my forehead and chin. Do you think I should keep using this product for 2 weeks and see what happens or just try out a new product like maybe the clean start??? Let me know! I’m so tired of having bumps all over my face

I have been a Clinique user for the 8 years that I worked at the BonTon. The discount was nice and made the 3-step affordable. After I left that company, I stopped using it for a while because I ran out and didn’t have the $$ to purchase it. However, I recently decided to spend the $$ on it because I have been using Avon’s Revitalize skincare for women in their 30’s and started getting severely dry skin. I purchased the exact 3-step that I’ve always purchased, Level 2, but am extremely dissatisfied. My skin became drier than it was. After using the “mild” liquid soap, my skin was so dry and taut. The toner made my face extremely red and the moisturizer was never absorbed into my skin. My neck became itchy and developed little red dots. I will never purchase this product again. I wasted $66. I am now trying the Aveeno calming cleanser and moisturizer for sensitive skin. I am a redhead and have very sensitive skin. Hopefully this works out for me. I have a newborn baby and cannot cuddle her with red, itchy, enflamed skin.

It is the worst product I ever used.. I used the 3 step and the dark spot corrector. The first day I had an itchy skin.. second day my eyes, nose and cheek were swollen. I had to rush to my doctor. It was a nightmare.

I just wanted to say that this is the worst skin care system I have ever tried. I feel terrible! My skin was beautiful! I tried this skin care and it has cause so much damage my doctor has referred me to a dermatologist. My face is inflamed by this 3 step care system. That toner burns like hell! My skin now is red all over, literally burns throughout the day, what looks like swollen pimples all over my cheeks. I feel so bad. Everyone at work keeps asking me what’s wrong. So I know the feeling
My skin is so dry I can’t even smile without lines all over my face. I do not recommend this to anyone. Do not waste your money on this crap!!!!
